I'm kind of surprised the school leaves it to others to organize. A school reunion should be organized by the development office and used as a fund raiser for the school.

Went to the five which was fun. I either wasn't invited to any of the other ones or we haven't had them.

Yeah, back then the school had some policy that if alcohol was to be served at any reunion, they wouldn't be involved. Good luck trying to get people to attend a dry reunion. Traditionally around here it was handled by the four class officers... president, VP, Secretary and Treasurer.

I never went to any of them because 1) I never received any notification (until the last one), and 2) Wouldn't have gone either way.

The last one would have been the 30th (yep, I'm old :( ). What they said they were doing this time was a combo deal - all of the classes from '78 - '83 (gee, lack of interest?).

At the Kankakee County Fairgrounds   Multiply that lack of interest by at least 1000.

No. Thank. You.

People that look forward to HS reunions are the people that peaked in HS.

Spanky nailed it. Went to my five year a keg in the country. Good time ,got laid. Have not attended another, the idiots took over after the five year and tried to make it a big pricey event. Fuck that. I still see and have contact with those that matter the rest never did and still do not.

Five years ago I went to my 25-year grammar school reunion. The grammar school I went to was first grade through eighth grade, so you went to school with the majority of these people the whole time, their brothers and sisters went to school with your brothers and sisters, you knew their parents, etc. I initially didn't really have any intention of going (I didn't go to any of the others) but several months prior to the date of the reunion the guy who was organizing it set up a message board, I got back in touch with a few people I was friends with, and they talked me into going.

I only planned on staying for about two hours TOPS, but wound up being there from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am and there were still about 15 people there when I left. There were probably between 50 - 60 people in our class and I'd say about 85%-90% were in attendance. There was one guy I graduated with who I stayed in touch with into my early 20s, but aside from that I hadn't seen or talked to anyone in ages. I had a lot of fun, far more than I expected.

Some people were still kind of the same, but many of them had grown considerably (as you would hope) and it was interesting to hear what they had been up to over the years. One guy's dad was a cop and was apparently involved with John Burge, which didn't come as a big shock because he was a pretty big jagoff.

Not sure about that. I would like to believe that I haven't peaked and I'm kinda looking forward to the next one.

I would have gone to my 20th, but I didn't want to travel the 620 miles to go back to it. I don't think we had any other ones or if we did I wasn't invited. Had I been local I would have gone, I have spent money on far worse things.

I've gone to a couple of grade school reunions. They were much more low key, just people getting together at a bar. It wasn't nearly as fun but it was still a good time. I don't get the misanthropic attitudes. Drink a little booze and hang out with old friends. That seems worthy of investing a couple of hours of my time. There is no way in the world you see everyone who you liked on a regular basis. Hell, I can go multiple months without seeing my closest friends.

Looking forward to a gathering of old friends that happens about once every 5 years means you peaked in HS? That is an incredibly narrow minded and silly attitude to have on the subject.

Staying in touch with people via social media is not the same as getting together. I loved my college years most and about half of the guys on the Baseball team have been at our college reunions the past 3 years. The weekend is a blast and I definitely look forward to Oct. 2-4 this year. We play golf on Friday, run the "Ol Stompin grounds" 5K Saturday morning, go to the football game and hang out together in the restaurants and bars we frequented back in the day. But I had a blast at my H.S. reunion too. Had our 20 year reunion at Pheasant Run. Played golf early on Saturday, dinner and party that night and after parties in several rooms we rented along with bartenders and servers (appetizers) for our guests. Sure the groups are mostly the same as in H.S. but what would you expect? Nobody is going to talk to everyone to see who they now would like to chat with most. You chose those friends for good reason in school and are most interested in what they have been up to because as old friends they matter more than those you never bothered to hang with. gotta say though, a lot of the hot girls in H.S. were not so hot anymore and a bunch of the plain looking girls looked way better 20 years later.

My 25th was the same night as Lakemoor fest. I went to that one, the 20th, and the 10th. I've always approached this with the thought of "There's no harm in going and I'd never regret going, but I could regret NOT going"

I most certainly didn't peak in HS. By the time I graduated high school, most of the people I hung out with were in the class behind me, so it's definitely not the case of me having a ton of friends from my class. That being said, I've had a great time at each of the reunions....especially the 20th. Most people had already gotten divorced, their kids were older, and there wasn't any of the "what are doing now" competition. We had drunks, laughed, and just had a great time.

I've never been to any of my reunions, and I'm old enough that there was a 30th HS one a while back. But my high school graduating class was 1200+ and many of my friends at the time were either a year ahead/behind me due to serious academic tracking and hyper parents of other kids who were being fast-tracked into Ivy League schools.

The last time I spoke to anybody from my HS who I didn't go to K-8 with was probably 20 years ago, and that was a random encounter in the Ogilvie Metra station's food court. The last time I spoke to anybody I went to K-8 with was about 10 years ago when a friend of mine was hired to be the top litigation for a Fortune 50 company. She was fucking brilliant, and sharp enough to know that she could do way better than sleeping with me in high school or college, so she and I had drifted apart after we both moved away from the town in which we grew up.

There are about six people like her that I'd really like to see because I'm curious what they're doing and I don't think they'd be assholes if they are really successful. There are about 10 people I'd like to see to find out what it's like to have to call a parole officer every couple of weeks. The rest can go volunteer for ISIS for all I care.

My high school's class right after mine had their ten-year back in town this weekend, as per ye olde facebook feed. Such a bunch of bright-eyed high achievers in that group, fine young millennials all. I wonder why my own graduating class came out so cynical, broken, and underachieving in comparison. Could I have dragged the whole cohort down myself?

I've been a misanthrope since first grade. Why on earth would I want to see any of those losers I had the unfortunate opportunity to spend the majority of my first 18 years of life with? Fuck 'em.

See? We aren't so different after all.

There's a reason why most of us don't still hang with all of our HS friends.

The rare times I go out now are usually spent with my friends from grammar school.

I skipped my 10 year reunion, and outside of the friends I've had from high school for the whole time, I have not made any attempt to hang out with anyone I would have seen at the reunion.

Oh, but I can see ALL the people I am not willing to put in any effort into seeing?

I'd probably go if I were single though.
