The NFL bubble is beginning to burst. In 20 years, they will point to this time period when discussing the epic collapse of the NFL and sport of football.

No they won't.

The NFL may go down in popularity eventually but it is fine now.

Just like in baseball, it takes a long time for enough fans to die to see a noticeable change.

You're wearing down. You used to dismiss these posts out of hand, not its "may go down eventually..."

Just get a LaCrosse stick and start rooting for some goals

The added bonus was Warren Sapp as the other role model on stage while CC spoke.

So much fail in the whole thing.

Not to mention that the video of Carter’s remarks at the 2014 symposium had been posted on NFL.com until it was removed Sunday.

I always said that. It may take 100 years though.

carter has always been an asshole. i remember him up in minnesota when moss and culpepper were coming on the scene and he could see he was no longer getting all of the red zone targets. he was there standing on the sideline jawing at culpepper like an asshole and trying to intimidate him into throwing him the ball.

I guess Chris Carter is gonna apologize on MNF tonight.

One thing he's gotta move on from is "I can't believe I said that". That was his early walk back.

No, Chris. We all saw the video. You said it with such passion and even humor. You meant everything you said. It wasn't a slip up. You spent a good minute telling the kids the importance of it.

He's a weezle. He'll probably work up some fake tears tonight. That's the type of ass hole that he is.

Dumb ass.

The apology.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9oyfJ1PD88

"It's not something I would say"

No. It's exactly what you would say. Why? Because you said it.

"I would never advise players to avoid prosecution."

No. That's exactly what you advised players to do.

If this wasn't Carter, if it was a non ESPN guy, it would be discussed and ridiculed over all ESPN platforms. I haven't heard any of ESPN radio or TV today. But I'm assuming they got the memo not to discuss and/or rip Carter.

It's ESPN and Disney. They should just pay him off and lose him. The money is spit in the ocean for them. Why bother with this thing? Hire some other dumb ass to replace him. Or hire nobody. Too many people at the desk for these pre games anyway.

You know what's a better idea for the NFL? Instead of having ex NFL druggies, drunks and thugs like Carter and Sapp talk to the players, why not have them go to a prison and hear the stories from those guys? Or have them listen to family members of those that got killed in DUI accidents. Or listen to domestic abuse victims.

Maybe it's not a good idea for ex NFL felons to talk to the rookies.

Rodger Goodell:

Beardown: Yeah, buddy. You should be embarrassed. You've had a bad 15 months and it's only getting worse.

I don't know. I blame Goodell. That's all that matters.

Dumb ass Goodell pays guys like Sapp and Carter to talk to these rookies. Let's also not forget that the NFL employed Sapp on the NFL network knowing his history as a thug. Had to fire him cuz he was with hookers at the Super Bowl.

I can't help but think this is one of those 'I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin' sorta things.

That is, it's not an 'official' position and one the NFL would deny if pressed, but one that they strictly encourage.

The way the NFL protects its multi billion dollar brand? I would think some 'fall guy' that came up in the hood with XYZ player taking the rap is a hell of a lot more palatable to the NFL than yet another one if it's highly paid, high profile employees doing yet another criminal thing.

I don't know Chris Carter's contract situation. Maybe they renew these NFL TV guys annually. But he needs to be fired. The NFL needs to make ESPN fire him.

If he does have a contract, maybe it will be like Dan Marino. Remember when Marino banged that CBS producer. They didn't fire him right away but a year later his contract expired and they just didn't renew him.

But the NFL has taken an image beating over the last year. You can't have Chris Carter be on ESPN Sundays and Mondays when he was teaching rookies how to get away with crimes. It's bad optics.

I think the NFL will make ESPN fire him, though. Maybe they're working on a buy out now.

Why?

I realize the NFL is all powerful and ESPN is dross, but I'm not cool with one company telling another what to do. The NFL already appears to have too much power.

At the end of the day, does it really matter? Carter is a talking head on a sports network that, over the last 10 years or so, has decided it's all about some sort of social agenda.

Will ESPN lose credibility and/or be required to be held to some higher standard? The network that just gave us the Caitlyn Jenner 'courage award' thing and trots out Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless on the daily? They have no credibility. A turd like Carter won't change that.

It really should be a bigger issue as it is a leader in the African American community perpetuating several harmful stereotypes.

ESPN: the station that derides law abiding citizens as cornball brothers and employs the monosyllabic with murky pasts.

That if you are young, black and wealthy, it is a foregone conclusion that you will break the law in a fairly serious manner?

That if you are young, black and wealthy, it is a foregone conclusion that you will surround yourself with hangers on that have so few prospects in life that they would be willing to be incarcerated just to stay in your good graces.

I'm pretty sure he spoke to ALL NFL players. Remember, the person who broke this story was Chris Borland. Last time I checked, Chris Borland was white.

And the fact that 70% of the NFL is black, suggests that most of the players that he'll be speaking to are in fact, black. Also, suggests that a good percentage of the players who will get in trouble will be black. It's a numbers thing.

That's definitely a reach. He wasn't just speaking to blacks. IIRC a white player outed him.
