I would be a Tigers fan. I sure as fuck wouldn't root for the Tampa White Sox.

what do you think of people growing up in brooklyn still rooting for the dodgers?

They died years ago.

I didn't know there were any.

My dad ditched the Cardinals when they left for Phoenix. He remained patient and was rewarded (?) with the Rams, whom he hate watches on a weekly basis.

How the hell did you become a Redskins fan?

I'd have quit baseball all together if the Sox moved. I only came back because of 2005 anyways.

Honestly? My mom enjoyed copious amounts of meth during trimesters one and two.

When you're a kid, you like the good teams. I was eight. I grew up near St. Louis, which obviously had no team then. I latched on to the 1991 Redskins Super Bowl champs and have been miserable since.

Cool...that mostly explains all of my friends who became Cowgirls fans in the mid-90's.

Fuck Jerry Jones.

Oh yeah. Within my group of buddies I grew up with, we root for the Redskins, Cowboys, Iggles, 49ers, Steelers, and Lions. We're an odd bunch.

Let me guess, the Lions fan gets his ass kicked by everyone else...

I was too young to get into the business side of things when all of that was going down.

I can tell you that fandom was tough as soon as Reinsdorf-Einhorn took over and moved games to Sportschannel. Daddy dolphin was having none of that paying for TV garbage.

You ascribe far too great of importance on something that is nothing more than an annoyance.

I consider much of Cub fandom to be like Red Sox fans of the 2000s if that gives you any insight into the mindset.

It was the same around here as well. I was shocked when I came home in '88 and found cable boxes in the house.

Actually I think the old man only would kick in for one trip to Comiskey a year. Fortunately the Sox were all but giving tickets away to schoolkids back in the 70's/early 80's. The rule around the way was my 3-4 closest friends had their dad drive & we all could go for free. Check with Sox fan grandfather & great aunt, it meant at least 6-8 games a year.

If JORR says that the playoffs are a zero probability, and a world series is completely out of the question, why would he give a rats ass about dude taking a couple days off to spend time with his family during the birth of his child?

I don't. I was asking Cub Nation.

Nice, but I'd consider them more like the high school HOFers in Practice. Talked a lot, impressed a lot...in practice. When the bright lights came on, out came the excuses.

If you don't care why ask?
The answer of course as always is "family first".

I can still recall playing whiffle ball in the front yard when the sportschannell (or whatever it was called) salesman came to the door. I didn't hear the entire conversation but I do remember the guy responding "its not a religion. You don't have to believe in it." Needless to say, he was summarily dismissed.
