He should be pretty good at fielding grounders at 3rd, given that he has hit that same grounder 200 times already this year and watched the opposing 3B make that play.

So they gave him a second chance and it seems it's not going well.
I've seen enough I think.

Does Baez have to be brought up before Sept 1st in order to be on the playoff roster?

At some point in time Starlin Castro was a beloved can't miss piece that would improve.

Times change, players change. It would seem too me that moving on would fit into the plan, as described. Next man up. As I've stated, I think a change of scenery would do him a great deal of good. I give the Cub powers that be a great deal of credit in doing what was neccesary with Starlin.

He'll be fine, he's legit, he's a core player, wait until next season.

The dysfunctional Cub have Sock fans on the run.

Yes, he is legit. You don't have 3 All-Star seasons if you are a fluke. A guy can have 1 All-Star season and be a flash in the pan (Fukudome and Bryan LaHair come to mind) but not 3. but a core player.....not anymore. he will be dealt and someone, whether it's Baez or someone else, will take his spot.

That might have been the best Castro swing I've seen all year.

Wait....hold on....
Hardcore "stat guy" believes that a player can have a "dedicated calendar month" that he is "hot" in throughout his career??
Am I reading this correctly?

Look at his August splits...

Some players are known for starting a season hot...or cold. Or doing well at home versus the road. Or hitting well the day after an offday. Or hitting better from the 2 hole than the 6 hole.

This isn't high school calculus. You don't need to show your work. But the answer is 'Castro is really good in August.'

Players can't be true to their statistical norms, over 162 games....or over a career......and then be a better hitter during certain calendar months.
Calendar dates are essentially arbitrary when talking about pure statistics. All dates are exactly the same.
Numbers do not know the 4th of July vs the 5th of September.

Save the "warm months" argument. It's chilly all week. It's August. Bats are exploding this week.

Some players are notoriously slow starters. Some players warm up deep into a season. Some players consistently hot the ground running and taper off.

Why do you think team ERAs are lower in April than July?

Absolutely none of this has anything to do with date on a calendar. Not one bit.
Surely you get this.

Okay...calendars aside...Starlin castro does best every season after 500 PA or 110 GP.

That just happens to be in August each season. And will be each season he starts and is relatively healthy.

Tl;dr Castro is good in August.

The Boston Red Sox, as an organization - and each player specifically, are completely cognizant of Ben Affleck's birthday, and simply are not good baseball players on that day each year.

According to IMU.

Listen, brother.
Dusty isn't exactly a "stats guy"

I'm gonna be tired tomorrow.
This is like a MNF Bears game when they are good. Or decent. Or better than they will be this year.

Something was different in the approach. Was it mental or physical? Keeping his head in, instead of pulling out of every swing?

This wasn't about heating up. Changes were made.
