Shocker! Mike North now takes up the cause for keeping Jacque Jones.
North said that he "gets paid to watch baseball".
If that was the case Mike, did you see Jacque make two more errors than assists in the outfield in 2006? Did you see him struggle at the plate for the first couple of months this season?
Once again, Mr. Contrarian strikes again.
I wish Murphy, North's good pal, would show up a little early for Thursday's remote and verbally joust with Pappy. That would be some interesting audio.
Who do you think would win that argument?

If the Cubs are entrusting the position onto Felix Pie, I think you can make a logical argument that they should have kept Jones. Pie hasn't shown he can hit at the major league level. I don't have an issue with turning the over to Pie as you need younger players to balance the payroll, but keeping Jones around (for the 1 year left) would have made sense, and I still think they need to bring in some sort of protection in case he struggles.

I don't believe the plan is to turn it over to Pie. If that was the case, why would they be showing interest in Kosuke Fukodome?

They don't a RF either unless you believe Matt Murton is going to be the guy out there.

I don't know what they are going to do with this OF. I'd say they need to at least one proven player to their current mix.

They obviously want to improve their lot in the outfield. I can't get angry at them for that.

Of course that is what they are doing, why do you think they got rid of Jones, Floyd and Monore, while at the same time not giving pie the Job.

I would like to see Pagan and Pie as the 4th and 5th OF's, then chase a top player for either RF or CF.

While we saw it at times last year and the year before Pagan showed some promise and I would not have thought anything great about him, but when I hear Mark DeRosa talking about the kid becoming an All Star because he is that talented, it does make me take a another look at him.
