There really are a lot of jackass coaches. I thought it was just that you hear about the bad ones but Ive seen very few who understand it's a game for children.

Everything revolved around his son. The way the team was put together, who played where, what they were instructed to do, how practices were run. I'm convinced he set the kid up whose mom he fought with to fail in a game and ended hurting my kid in the process. One of the assistant coaches sorta tipped me off to that and I'm pretty sure he thought the coach was an all around dope too. One kid who was a bit of a puck hog, was a few months in he was not allowed to take the puck up anymore which totally fucked up 2 games. The kid said fuck it and went back to being a puck hog, then he started having issues with those parents. He expected kids to cover for others but some of it was wrong. It was all his way or the highway but he never taught them anything then got pissed in and after games when it was clearly his lack of instruction. He'd make them feel bad by saying kinda crappy shit after games if his son looked bad.

There is a way to balance "coach / teacher is always right" with doing your best and surviving. Last year as a Freshman, my son had a bad Math teacher. I experienced it myself in that she didn't communicate with me consistently and her grading was erratic. No excuse. You have to make the best of it. It's going to happen again and again throughout life.

Detentions happen and I could care less about those. School suspensions result from more far serious behaviors or from repeated offenses on the same rule. I don't care. There is ZERO excuse to be suspended form school. Zero.

Spaulding,
I recall being coached myself in that same situation and it does suck. If you experienced it 2 years in a row by 2 different coaches than I think you have a league-wide issue an that's unfortunate. Coach's kids play and that's hardly a new practice.

It was the same idiot coach, we had him for two years. 3 of the coaches have been outstanding so I don't think it's a league thing.

While this is mostly true, do you really think I deserved a suspension for some very minor pushing, and then getting sucker punched 30 seconds later? That is why my parents chose not to punish me. They were happy I didn't hit back.

Zero tolerance though....

I dont get that.

Myself and the 5 coaches Ive worked with have all gone out of the way to make sure no one can accuse us of favoring our own kids.

Its infuriating when idiots like that coach you had think they are getting over on people (as if everyone just thinks "his kid just happens to be the best one")
