I'm picking sixth on a twelve team league. I consider that the worst spot of all. I'll get shit every which way with people at both ends doubling down on the players I have targeted just before I pick. I think I'd rather just volunteer to pick last.

Fantasy draft position is way overrated. Championships are won by being active & adding & dropping players throughout the season.

Nah. Doesn't matter.

Who would you pick at #3? Who will you pick at #6?

standard scoring ...PPR ????? any odd rules.... I have played since 1995 ...I kind of like the middle but have won from all draft positions... pickups and late round guys are where leagues are won... but leagues can be lost in the first 3 rounds....

i did a couple'a "draft now!" yahoo public league drafts the other night and if you think picking 6/12 sucks try drafting 8/9 out of 10... by the time you get to pick all of the obvious top picks are gone, then gronk, and then maybe antonio brown or ODB or whoever the first receiver off the board is.... then you're getting to that 2nd tier of RBs like the aforementioned jeremy hill, or maybe the 2nd-3rd receiver off the board (aka the doubt-plagued 1st round pick WRs).... and oh yeah because yahoo drafts snake you're then picking again at 12/13 and you're going to have the same connumdrum, plus if you don't go for a QB by the 2nd pick you can kiss luck, rodgers, and even peyton manning goodbye by the time you get to pick again circa picks 28/29. and oh yeah, by that point all of the top-tier WRs are gone, most "top' RBs are gone, and maybe there's a jimmy graham if you fancy him but at that point pretty much all of the top guys you wanted are gone and you gotta start settling.

personally, i think if you can get a marquee running back really early that's a good idea, but i wouldnt rush out to try and lock down both RB positions in the first 2-3 rounds, especially if you're a believer that having a top-QB who's good for 20+/week is more important than drafting a bigtime RB or 2 in the first few rounds. how many ppl last year had justin forsett and CJ anderson when they broke the draft? you could have been a beast down the stretch with those two (who are both top-20 picks this year) and odds are you prolly had at last one other established/top RB by the time you added them.

so yeah i'd maybe consider gronk there since having a bonafide +++ at TE is a nice advantage to have (kind of like when that 2013 bears DEF was routinely dropping double digits and even a handful of 30+pts games from the DEF position) and like scorehead said, if you play the wire well in the first 4-6 weeeks odds are you can nab the breakout/replacement RBs/WRs to supplant your draftees.

but at #6, yeah shit.... i'd either consider gronk or take a bigtime RB you believe in with the intention of nabbing luck/rodgers/manning in the 2nd round. yahoo gives peyton a much lower o-rank this year, but once luck and rodgers go off the board sometimes he'll go as early as ~17 cuz after luck and rodgers he's the last brand name QB you can get there.

of course many believe that you can wing it at QB since so many guys will get you ~15/week and theres always someone who can be drafted later who will jump up into that 20-30+/week who wont carry a first 2-3 round pricetag.... hey if you wanna go that way god bless you, but i'll take my chances with andrew luck and finding a proper RB/WR or 2 throughout the season as opposed to finding that QB during the season.

How in the hell do you get Gronk in the 3rd round, are you playing against a bunch of children?

Too many people burned by taking a TE in 1st or 2nd before.
Plus maybe the whole "No Brady" thing?

Lots of fantasy advice saying don't draft him before 3rd. Good RB and WR are too valuable to pass up.

12 team league yesterday, he went early in the 2nd round. I think last year I took him in the 1st round and he was HUGE for me.

Sometimes it doesn't, hell you could say that about any player that gets hurt. You should feel fortunate. Whoever is playing qb is going to be smart enough to think, I had better get the ball to 87, a LOT.

Do you guys do anything special for your drafts in terms of making it a night? Talent, high end food, etc.

I need to start playing with people that populate Chus' and Scorehead's league. Wow, for you to get some of your players at certain rounds there were many awful picks.

One draft we had the 2nd floor of bar to ourselves which came with a package of unlimited drinks and one entree off their menu. The upstairs had TVs everywhere and a waitress. However, because the only time everyone was available was before 1st week of preseason so people got fucked with injuries.

Just held my other draft on Sunday at buddy's apartment with pizza and subs.

The biggest issue is people living out of town or not being available. In-person drafts are FAR SUPERIOR and everyone ends up agreeing how great it was to see everyone, grub and talk shit for 4 hours. But getting them to agree on the time/date was a ridiculous struggle. It's like they forget how awesome live drafts are and avoid setting one day aside for this glorious event. I should probably kick them out since I'm commissioner. Fantasy football season only goes downhill after draft day.

I knew I could wait until the end to get him.

Knile Davis will probably be a nice pick as well. The guy who took Jamaal Charles should have taken him, but his last three picks were Danny Amendola, Tim Tebow, and 34 year old free agent, Fred Jackson.
