This is my "I would love IMU to be able to tell everyone how right he was" thread.....but I am leaning into the "he wont be able to cut it camp"....not by tons and I am not trading him due to the ceiling on the guy, but I thought he needed a ton of work. Almost a whole new approach. Word is thats what he has done, but to think a guy had to revamp his whole swing at age 21, thats usually not the recipe for greatness in the bigs....tweaking a swing is one thing...

Its rare, but I know it happens and takes special talent to be able to do....lets see if he has it.

It's too early to call Baez a bust (unless you are a moron), but the frequency of strikeouts continues to be an issue. Even if the rate has decreased slightly. With Coghlan, Castro, Rizzo, Soler and Bryant, the Cubs will have a pretty nice lineup next season. Alcantara does not look like anything but a utility guy at this point to me. But he does have speed and nice versatility. Bryant changes everything once he's called up in May and the fun really begins. Still, I have hope that Baez can still make the needed adjustments and be a part of this core going forward.

What are your expectations for Bryant? Im laughing at this supposed guaranteed to be a stud player. Wasn't Bryce Harper just as heralded and he hasn't broken .275 for a full season yet.

I predicted Bryant to hit 25 homers and have 100 RBI before the season began and be ROY. I see no reason to move off that prediction. Next year and for the next several years, I think he will be between 30-40 HR's and 110-120 RBI and hit for an average of around .270-.280. I like him to stay at 3rd too. With Schwarber's bat needing a spot in the lineup (he's a liability at Catcher right now), LF is taken and Rizzo isn't getting moved, so Bryant will be staying at 3rd and I think he's fine there, if no gold glover.

They knew it, but thats what they had....yes, times have changed, the owner's priority is to make a winning team and no doubt they want to make a lot of money from that very good team, but it starts with a good team, because otherwise all the other improvements dont get anyone to sit in the new bleachers, they dont get any to eat in the new club, etc.

They didn't know it. That's why they drafted him. This is part of the mythology, that Theo Epstein is the only guy who tries to draft good players.

I don't think anyone thinks that.

Baez is hot right now. He just seems like he is going to be a large part of the future Cubs success. The guy many wrote off could have the biggest surprise impact on the club.

Currently on a 12 game hitting streak.

In his last 10, .455 BA with 13 RBI and only 9 K's.

Overall, .317/.382/.534 for a .916 OPS at AAA.

IMU, his history suggests that he struggles at each new level, adjusts, and then excels. He looked really bad at the major league level, but I would like to see him get 500 at bats or more and see if that pattern repeats. I just don't know where you fit all these guys around the diamond.

My boy Castro is the odd man out, and Coghlan spells Baez, Schwarber and Soler. Denorfia loses at bats, and Castro loses at bats.

It is what it is. Play your best players.

I'm sure he'll have a great first week and Cubs fans will rush to judgment, as they have done with all of these young players

Home against the Reds is a soft landing. Not as soft as at Coors Field but pretty damn soft.

They were just talking in depth about Baez on MLB Tonight. Said doing the Sheffield bat waggle is fine and that Baez's problem is that his hands are still too high when the pitcher is coming forward with the pitch where as Sheffield's hands were in perfect position.

That sounds like a year ago.
