I've watched a decent amount of triple a Baez, and tonight it was quite obvious that the kid was overly nervous, moving around in the box, not looking for his pitch, pulling his head, et al. I'd give it another night or two before I pronounce anything. I think he's better.

new stance, closed up, less out of control...still swings hard.

When they needed a fly ball to advance the runner, he slowed up, he made contact and it got done.

giving him way more thna 2 nights....love to see the break through,as the swing is about as hard as seen since Sheffield.

I don't know why they didn't call him up on the 31st so he could be playoff eligible just in case he starts crushing the shit out of everything.

I assume there is some control issue on his contract, because been asking the same thing.

He is ELIGIBLE.

You only have to be on the 40 man roster as of last night midnight.

With the power numbers Baez could generate, anything (batting average) above .250 would be great.

There was a DP that looked real nice from him to Russell to Rizzo. I thought to myself "Wow, been a while since they had a good fielding infield overall"

I'm not disagreeing. It has been awhile.

Or Theriot and Fontenot, aka the "Cajun Combot"

Yes, they were decent in 08 (til it mattered in the playoffs and then they fucking came apart)

Theriot didnt have the arm and De Rosa wasnt as slick as Baez or Russell

Its crazy tho, that now with Jackson in CF and Baez at 2b, the Cubs might actually be a good defensive team

Yeah, I guess Fontenot and DeRosa were pretty comparable defensively - both solid. So 2008-2009 was really the last time.

Let's compare it to Castro's 2011 numbers

Closing his stance will make it difficult to get to the inside fastball. If he can fight that pitch off and lay off the sliders out of the zone he'll have a chance. If not it's back to the drawing board.

Let's compare it to Castro's 2011 numbers

2011 OPS? Sure. I'll go over .773 OPS.

Baez is not going to hit for a .300 average, so I'm not touching 2011 BA.

What are the stakes?

I'm not taking that bet. Do you know how few players get 200 hits? Starlin Castro was the only player to get 200 hits in the National League over the last 5 seasons.
