A government employee not doing his/her job, what a shocker. Imagine working for CMS (Medicare/Medicaid) in their payables department and having to issue checks to clinics and hospitals which provide abortion services. How could any Catholic handle that?

I suspect there are plenty of things that are legal that are in opposition to the religious beliefs of various folks.

Get over it.

The entitlement of some religious people is just insane.

We'd be a lot better off if people realized that their religious beliefs do not trump anyone elses.

You have it all wrong. Allowing two fellas to get married takes away her religious freedom, and it will probably turn her gay. Thanks, Obama.

Just waiting for this to turn in to some ugly national scene with an angry Rosie O'Donnell on the front steps of the building reading from some prepared speech.

You probably take some oath of office when becoming clerk that you will carry out the laws of the county, etc, etc..

Shouldn't she just be "impeached"/fired?

Then she'd be a martyr of sorts.

Best thing to happen ... well, the best thing would be for a pack of wolverines to eat her alive in the middle of the street ... that said, the next best thing to happen would be for a judge to find her in contempt and, rather than toss her in jail (where she could also play the martyr card and get bailed out "proving" she fought for God and won), just fine the ever-lovin' piss out of her.

Aren't you the guy who had a problem in the past with your job not being what you were led to believe it was? Or was that someone else?

It gets better ...

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2015/09/01/kentucky-clerk-fighting-gay-marriage-has-wed-four-times?src=usn_tw

The Kentucky county clerk facing potentially stiff penalties for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses has been married four times, raising questions of hypocrisy and selective application of the Bible to her life.

The marriages are documented in court records obtained by U.S. News, which show that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008.

She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second. Davis worked at the clerk's office at the time of each divorce and has since remarried. ...

I've said it before, I'll say it again ... what this world needs is a good old-fashioned plague.

Yes, but that is not the case here. Her job is to issue license for legal marriages among other things. This isn't about DB. He is a fine Karate Kid T-Shirt wearing chap.

I never took an oath that I would uphold the laws of an elected office.

How can she justify the 3 divorces (and second and third marriages) vs Gay marriage though?

Aren't they both not allowed by church?

It wasn't the law when she was elected.

I am barely a Republican anymore.....these nut jobs are killing what should be a free market, small government party. And lest you think these nuts are only Republican voters, watch the debates, and you'll see plenty of freaks on stage.

If you believe in the spirit of the American project, then you believe deeply in limited government, free speech, freedom of religion (not just Christianity), immigration (melting pot), etc. And I am fine if you don't believe in the ideals of this country because that is the American project. I respect your beliefs. I relish open, honest and sincere debate. But the Supreme Court has ruled. It is settled law.

Did her oath say something like "I vow to uphold the laws of the X County, except ones added after X date"?

So, wait...while in the process of divorcing Husband #1 she gets pregnant by the man who would eventually be Husband #3, but instead marries Husband #2, divorces him, then marries Husband #3?

So if they changed the voting age to 16 or driving at to 14, she could refuse to enforce that?
