Wow.

Quote:
For perspective, here’s the lineup Rick Renteria – the manager at the time – put together on the day the Cubs drafted Schwarber last year:

Junior Lake, LF
Justin Ruggiano, CF
Anthony Rizzo, 1B
Starlin Castro, SS
Luis Valbuena, 3B
Nate Schierholtz, RF
Darwin Barney, 2B
Eli Whiteside, C
Travis Wood, P

His last 4 hits are all Homers. Big, important hits, but a few singles and doubles sprinkled in would be great. 35 RBI in just 41 games is pretty impressive though. had a shot last night that looked like a sure hit, but the 2nd baseman, playing well into the outfield grass made a good play on the shifted defense employed to stop the Babe.

That's impossible according to the great baseball historian and analyst EricMessedUp17, as the shift will be ineffective because Schwarber hits opposite field home runs.

Peavy's already rattled. Rizzo's leaving the yard. I can feel it.

Don't understand that at all.

I assume because only Rizzo has a higher OBP.

Rizzo
Schwarber
Bryant
Fowler
Montero
Coghlan
Russel
Castro
P

That should be the lineup

That's probably too radical even for a genius like Maddon.

I thought the Braves moving Heyward to the top last year when he was hitting like .240 but with a 350 obp was a step towards that

Some manager should at least fucking try it

The problem is that baseball is a game of time and repetition. All evidence points to that type of configuration scoring the most runs over time. But if it doesn't work right away, fans are going to be taking the manager apart on radio shows and social media. Making changes in baseball is like turning the Titanic.

Maddon wanted to screw with Peavey more than he wanted to actually win the game. The genius outsmarted himself.

Oh and the pitcher batted 8th again.

That's a lot of power. An 84mph pitch that low - all the power is generated in the swing and he goes 432' opposite direction.

Nice.

Yep that is a lazy pop out for most players.

I was there yesterday. The ball was flying. The Red SS threw his bat on the ground on the HR he hit because he thought it was a lazy fly ball.

I thought that homer off Rodney was a "can of corn". I couldn't believe that thing left the yard.
