Silvy and Waddle were just talking about this.

Draft picks helped stock the Cowboys' teams of the 90s, has worked out well for the 2015 Cubs, and there are umpteen other examples of franchises who built lasting success by acquiring draft picks and using them wisely.

I think he's wrong, but I would have that Tweet at the bottom of the list of reasons why I think he's worthy of a dbag nomination.

How has it worked out well for the 2015 Cubs? Their top contributors in pitching and offense came by way of trade. Their biggest strength for most of the year has been pitching that didn't get acquired through the draft.

Bryant and Schwarber were draft picks.

He's referring to Arietta and Rizzo, who were not.

Bryant and Schwarber have both been huge contributors to a real good team.

That is what Tad is talking about

and?

Despite the delusions, neither of those guys is carrying the team nor has at any point in the season. You naming them only highlights Greenbergs point. He didn't say irrelevant, just overrated

It depends on the sport, doesn't it? In the NHL, where there's a hard salary cap and guaranteed contracts, draft picks are precious. You need to redeem those for cost-controlled players or you cannot compete. Baseball, I dunno, the whole draft seems like a crapshoot to me.

draft picks are least valuable in basketball.

80% of them end up sucking.

They were talking about football draft picks. They had Polian on this morning (commercials on the Drive before MILESTONES IN ROCK). Polian said on one hand only about 50% of first round draft picks are good ones. But on the other hand, he said you need draft picks because those guys are cheaper against the cap.

Which of Bryant's 84 RBIs in 123 games has been your least favorite?

Wrong. The Cubs took off once Schwarber's bat was added to the lineup. That's a fact. His addition along with Bryant's are one of the primary reasons the Cubs will be a playoff team. Buying low on a guy that you drafted and a young arm doesn't change any of that. The Cubs wouldn't be a playoff team with Schwarber or Bryant.

His first. He should've been brought up out of spring training and had RBI#1 on the glorious opening day. The Cubbies would be leading baseball but for the damn Ricketts and they're penny pinching.

Bastards.

90's. Cowboys were great because no salary cap.

Disagree with Greenberg on this. Drafting is not overrated, particularly if your league has a salary cap. The Spurs are the model of the NBA because of the way they draft. None of their five championships came as a,result of a major Free agent signing. Golden State won the championship based upon good drafting.

In baseball the Yankees were better during the pd. in which they drafted better. Sure there were some free agent signings but their core was comprised of guys that they drafted. On Football the fates of the Colts would have been a lot better had they drafted Leaf and RGIII as opposed to Manning and Luck.
