I see the 6.5 game lead against Giants quickly evaporating. Tough to beat this schedule when you only have one quality starting pitcher and no bullpen.

This is going to suck. :(

Welcome a tough finish. No reason to back in, lets see what they really have. I know the Starters are a major issuse, but scrapping in games at this point is fine.

Unless their starters improve drastically, that is going to be a pretty tough 11 game trip for them. You gotta figure the bullpen is going to (if its not already) get burned out with all of the times the SP can't make it past the 5th, or Maddon pulls him early. Losing that off day at the end of the year too could hurt as well.

Half this schedule is against teams under .500. If you can't beat AZ,PHI,MIL,CIN. Then you don't belong in the playoffs.

SF is not PIT or SL. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Under .500 teams win games too. The Phillies swept the Cubs earlier this year and the Reds just took 2 of 3. Are you saying the Cubs don't belong in the playoffs?

AZ is a good team, similar to the Cubs....also dont have pitching, thats why I think Samardizja will be there next year. They will overpay and he has a house there, not the worst possible combos.
Need to do better v Cinci ...Just walk Votto, no matter what....and they need to sweep Milwaukee

Calm down. It's very difficult to blow that big of a lead with less than a month to go. Also the Giants don't seem to be a team that is grabbing it from them.

The Giants have definitely not taken advantage of the last week.

expanded roster / more arms in pen will help address what certainly is a real problem.

I'm saying if they choke the last month of the year away losing to these sub .500 teams and the good teams then they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. I am also saying that with Arietta and Lester leading the way, that they will not go on an extended losing streak and not make the playoffs. If Hendricks,Hammel or Haren heat up you can put in on the board.... yes. Cubs will dominate this month.

Since Maddon is the Gene Mauch of his time, maybe he can pitch Lester and Arrieta everyday like Mauch did with Bunning and Short back in 1964.

Brewers tried to do that with Sabathia in 2008 too.

The Cubs aren't playing well. Neither are the Giants. I think the Cubs still manage to get in to the playoffs, but it will be short lived. The holes in the rotation are apparent. The bullpen is not living up to expectations. Maybe getting Neil Ramirez back will help things some, but they need to stop choking.

the team is returning to its mean. I said they wouldn't make the playoffs, but it appears the rest of the NL is so bad they may sneak in in spite of themselves.

If the Cubs go .500 over the next 30 games the Giants would have to play at a .700 clip to win the second WC.

Over a full season a .700 clip is 113 wins.

Lets not get nuts and panic.

Cubs had an off week
So did the Giants.
So did the Pirates.

We'll be fine.

I heard on Mully & Hanley show today...Hanley said the Cubs are missing out on an opportunity to catch and pass the Pirates...and as such, they wouldn't have to play in a one game playoff!!!

I assume MAYBE he meant they could play a home game, but that is certainly not what he said and never corrected himself. Idiot.

I think the 1969 Mets went 38-9 down the stretch. (Certainly not something a team can do for an entire season, but there have been streaks...)

I like the Cubs chances of holding onto the second or getting the 1st wild card.
