I think the 1969 Mets went 38-9 down the stretch. (Certainly not something a team can do for an entire season, but there have been streaks...)

You're right, because one team in the past 45 years went on an unreal streak Cubs fans should worry.

Time for me to go clean the shit out of my pants after reading your post.

The Cubs just went on a modern day insane streak but that's none of my business.

I wonder what odds Fangraphs would've had the '69 Cub on 9/3/69?

None of that shit matters when the games have yet to be played.

What if the Cubs go .400?

They can go 11-19 n win 86 games..that's getting in.

I'm not worried at all, I like all these games with Pitt..we play good against em n stand a good chance at passing them.

Yeah, Maddon will make all the difference when his team can't hit, pitch or field the baseball. He'll just take the field and do it all for them.

Leo was a bum and didn't know shit about the game.

like the shift from "we are good enough to win it all" back to "we are a year ahead of schedule" I'm hearing in the "unbiased" media

Remember, Barry Rozner stopped being a fan when he became a journalist ("GO BLACKHAWKS AND CUBS")

Nationals are 7.5 back.

They have 18 games left against Miami, Philly, and Atlanta

Then they end with 3 against the Mets (who may be resting starters at that point)

I was watching the Brewers game last night and he didn't start but was in the on deck circle when the game ended. But he was not running well on Wednesday.

RPB is right...the Nationals are a threat. They are better constructed than the Cubs, it's a miracle they haven't contended yet. Williams may be part of their problem, but I expect them to be in the mix for the wild card at the end.

Yes, and this Cub team might again finish in the high 80's and in third place

ahh, I thought you meant the Nats had that feel...the difference between those two Cubs teams was the 04 team was so tight, not in a good way, tightly wound and had a ton of expectations placed on them. The Cards and Astros in front of them were in the World Series that year and the next, respectively and that Cubs team was aging. But I could see the Cubs giving this away...as I told Rod some time ago, I didn't see this team making the playoffs this year, even after this last streak.

people forget these days how good Patterson was in 03 before he went down. The Cubs just assumed he'd be good in 04. That whole season slipped down the drain when they got rid of Kenny Lofton, who set the high contact/high pitch count creating feel of the 03 team. Paul Bako.

Cubs win the last wildcard spot by at least 5 games. I'll bet you a Pepsi.
