One of my friends considered a business of heavy refillable objects such as detergent. They would come to your house once a month and fill up a 30 gallon pump system.

Not sure I am such need that if I am doing the laundry I cant run to any number of stores and buy a temporary smaller bottle at worse.

No joke. Now you don't have to pick up your box of depends when you buy your lottery tickets.

30 gallons of detergent ought to get a family of four through a year or so, right? I could see some merit in just getting a big honkin' drum of detergent every year. It would really cut down on packaging costs. And psychologically, budgeting for the annual detergent drum as a necessity might feel better than buying a bottle at the store every time you're out and being like "damn, detergent kinda costs a lot when you think about it."

I'm not sure what else this business plan would work for, though. Cat litter?

The porn industry could probably use it to purchase lube.

Instant ordering of lube in bulk would be pretty slick ...
