As a child of the 70s and 80s I grew up watching a lot of game shows, so I was pretty psyched when I stumbled across Buzzr (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzzr) last night. One of my favorite game shows was Match Game from the early 70s. I loved Richard Dawson, Berry White, Charles Nelson Reilly, and the random hot actress they usually had sitting at the lower left. A young Tad didn't realize exactly how much of a letch Gene Rayburn was, and sometimes it's quite disgusting and cringe worthy, but overall he was a great host.

Seeing them smoke and drink during the show seems so bizarre now but I didn't think twice about it in the early-to-mid 70s.

I'm looking forward to watching some old, old episodes of The Price is Right if they show them.

History

The Buzzr brand was first used by Fremantle for a YouTube channel created and produced by its digital content studio Tiny Riot, which debuted in late-2014. The Buzzr YouTube channel features classic clips, and short-form adaptations of its game show properties (such as Family Feud and Password), with internet celebrities as contestants, primarily aimed towards millennials.[4][6]

On January 20, 2015, FremantleMedia announced that it would launch Buzzr TV, a digital multicast network that would serve as an extension of the brand; the network, with the Fox Television Stations as its charter station group. Buzzr TV features classic game shows from the company's programming library.[7][8] Thom Beers, former CEO of FremantleMedia North America, stated his interest in launching a network centered around its game show content after he joined the company in 2012, calling such a project a "top priority" for Fremantle as a way to help monetize the value of its library. The company intended to focus Buzzr toward older adults, with Beers citing that the "old-format game shows are really, really hard [for the younger viewership that the Buzzr YouTube channel targets] to watch."[4]

[img]The Buzzr television network debuted on June 1, 2015, with the launch preceded by a preview reel outlining its initial programming that aired in an eight-hour continuous loop, starting at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The network formally launched that evening at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time with the 1963 pilot episode of Let's Make a Deal as the first show to be broadcast.[2][9][10][11]
Programming

FremantleMedia's library of game shows, spanning 154 series and an estimated 40,000 episodes overall, serves as Buzzr's core programming.[12] The network's initial lineup – with series produced from the 1950s to 2000 – includes such programs as To Tell the Truth, Password, Family Feud (encompassing episodes beginning with Richard Dawson as host and dating up to John O'Hurley's tenure), Let's Make a Deal (from Monty Hall's runs as host), What's My Line?, I've Got a Secret, Beat the Clock, Card Sharks, and Match Game.[3][4][5] The Price Is Right may also be included as part of the network's schedule.[1]

The network also puts on promotional stunts surrounding holidays. Buzzr announced that on July 4, 2015 they would be airing episodes of Body Language, Match Game, Press Your Luck, Card Sharks, Super Password, and Password Plus that originally aired on the 4th of July in their respective years.[13]

Beginning September 7, 2015, Buzzr will begin airing a specialty block called "Buzzr Lost and Found".[14] This block will feature rarely seen shows from FremantleMedia's library, including unaired pilots and short-lived shows.

Also interested in seeing Tattletales with Bert Convy, Card Sharks, and the Lost and Found shows feature rarely seen shows from FremantleMedia's library including unaired pilots and short-lived shows.

The Goodson-Todman game shows were never my favorites (I'm a Pyramid/Scrabble guy), but watching their old 1950s games is fun as an exercise in pop-cultural anthropology. What's My Line?, for instance, wasn't about the game (which was basically impossible for the contestant to lose) so much as an occasion for New York socialites to put on eveningwear and be witty with one another for the benefit of Middle America. They all called each other "Mr" or "Miss" well into the mid-'60s. How stodgy.

Blockbusters is probably the most clever game on that schedule. That game would be fun on a really really big board.

One of my favorite things about the old game shows is when they ask topical questions that are no longer pertinant. Like they'll give a question "What military program resulted in disaster when India and Pakistan uncovered facts the US would rather have hidden?" The Samba Spy scandal of course! "This actor runs the Minuteman Cafe across from the Stratford Inn on Newhart." Who is Stephen Kampmann!

That first season of Newhart with videotape instead of film and Steven Kampmann instead of Peter Scolari was odd. Truly a show that hadn't found itself.

Wrong station, but yeah, I agree. I can't believe he lasted 2 seasons.

Kind of a proto-show-about-nothing, if you think about it. The bit with the world's smallest horse was great stuff.

"Who do I show the horse to?"
"You really think that's the world's smallest horse?"
"No, this is the world's oldest horse."
"We didn't ask for the world's oldest horse!"
"That woman doesn't even have a horse! She has a basset hound."
"At least it's small."
"Not for a basset hound."

Among the best celebrities on Match Game: Charles Nelson Reilly, Richard Dawson, Betty White, Fannie Flagg.

Among the worst: Brett Sommers and Bill Daly.

She's definitely lively and a character, but it irritates me when she intentionally gives ridiculous answers that span two or three cards. Contestant Jill from San Bernardino could probably actually use the money if she wins, and the nonsensical answers Brett gives for shits and giggles probably don't seem that funny to her.

I always thought Debralee Scott was comely in a back-alley sort of way.

Huh...just read that her fiance was killed in the 9/11 attacks.
