I saw this was replaying starting last night on PBS. I guess they kinda re-mastered it and made it look a bit better. I have never seen it but
have heard nothing but great things. Just wanted to toss it out there for those with interest. I think it plays each night at 8pm. I am DVRing
and watching later. As a total sucker for this time period it is a must see for me.

I caught some of it on PBS. My main complaint is they just use a lot of quotes mainly from newspapers and diaries. They could have told the story in an easier flowing way. I would say that I could almost feel the mood in the country with state after state seceding from the union and everyone on edge of when Ft Sumter was going to be attacked. But they tried to tell it from the view of the political class, soldiers and the wealthy.

Watched the first one last night. I can understand where you are coming from with your complaint but I honestly think the best way to understand that time are from quotes of those
that were experiencing it at the time. At least they have some well known actors doing the reading. I enjoyed seeing a lot of the photographs from the period that I have not seen
before.

I just wrapped up the Battle of Antietam. I lived 15 minutes from there when I lived out east for 9 months. I have a print from the Battlefield
hanging in my bedroom. Just a very interesting place to visit and walk around. You can do that one and Gettysburg same day pretty easily
as long as you don't look at every single monument.

shortly after the Ken Burns series came out i was given shelby foote's 3-book "Civil War - The Narrative" 3-book series of the Civil War. Those books are the greatest volumes i have ever read and are without a doubt the most comprehensive view of that war ever put on paper. I want to say that it took him over 30 years to write the three books. If you are into that period of history, it does not get any better than this. He was an unbelievable story-teller and a master writer. these three books are the most cherished books i own and even now i will grab one and read from them on occasion, especially if we are going to be visiting somewhere with Civil War history.

Interesting.... I was thinking if they ever did a spoof on this that Nick Offerman could play a darn good Shelby Foote.

Just starting the last day of what I DVR'd so I guess that means episode 8 and 9. Hoping to finish it by tomorrow at the latest.
It has been a pretty in depth and incredible story thus far. I am just blown away by all of the pictures they have from the time
period. What a horrible way to fight a war.
