So you guys are mad at JORR for thinking Rizzo isn't a perennial MVP candidate?

I think this goes to show just how sensitive you guys really are. He isn't calling him a bum.

No, not at all.

He is doing with Abreu the very thing he is accusing Cub fans of.

But you knew that already :)

The Cubs and their GM have many Sox fans twisting themselves into pretzels trying to make sure they can say they failed no matter what happens.

My favorite example of this is the "they're winning with pitching" as if to say "they arent winning EXACTLY as Theo planned it!!"

Like I (or any fan of any team) give a fuck?

Just win baby

I don't think anyone is mad @ Jorr, just tired of him talking out of his ass. He sounds like a lot of guys I know who had t shirts that said " I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a brother who's a Cubs fan"

His bias is absurd, its shown daily...if Bryant or Russell were on Detroit or Cincinatti he'd never make these statements.

I've been told there's a "right way" to win.

Is that no longer the case?

It's funny. I heard this same argument from Cubbie fans when it was Grace vs. Thomas 25 yrs. ago or slightly modified for DLee vs. Konerko 12 yrs ago. Didn't work out then, likely won't work out now. Nice to see Cubbie fan consistency in all things over all these years.

Derrek Lee was not consistent? His OPS could swing .200 from one season to the next. I'm not responsible for you surrounding yourself with idiots.

In fairness, they are playing in the NL. A giant pile of suck.

If the Cubs had to face stalwart opponents such as Baltimore, Boston, White Sox, Detroitm, Oakland, and Seattle we'd surely be screwed!

Do you know why so many NL teams have less than 60 wins?

The Cardinals, Pirates, and Cubs.

Well, 80% of Cubs fans didn't agree with the plan.

The plan fails if they don't win at least one World Series. The plan succeeds if they win one. That is how it has always been and ultimately that is how it will be judged.

Glad to see we've come full circle. Sox fans just couldn't take Cubs fans agreeing with them that the Cubs future success is not guaranteed, so they had to go back to bashing "the way" in which the Cubs have built their team. If the Cubs are good, I don't care if they're marching out a dog to play first base... and Maddon just might!

You can't fail when you hold yourself up to no objective standard. "Being competitive each year", in the expanded playoff era of baseball, is a slight step above simply existing.

You hold your team up to no scrutiny. Don't be surprised when others find that remarkable.

Good, but then don't be one of the legion who praise the process as being the unique way the Cubs arrived at the goal.

The standard is winning a world series, quite obviously.

See, you fall victim to it in this very post. What Cub fans agree with means nothing to the conversation. They either win or they dont.

I'm glad to see that Byron.

Can you believe there are some Cubs fans who believe that the Plan will be a success even if the Cubs never win a World Series?

Crazy.

Cub fans argued that Grace and Lee had the age on their side? Really?

That is fair if that is the standard, but then I'm not so sure why the board for the last two months has basically been "Cubs rule, White Sux suck".

I think Brick got his numbers backwards. I would say that 80% of Cubs fans supported the plan.

I am happy to see that you throw down the gauntlet but no it isn't. The playoffs are a crap shoot and the World Series winner is lucky. The goal is to be competitive every year. I have heard this innumerable times from Theo.

You were on the board at the time that it was a discussion. The number didn't come from me.

In case you're wondering if Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein already has his "Reverse the Curse" game face on, well, he does.

On Saturday -- one day before Cubs pitchers and catchers begin their first official workout, five days before position players report, 15 days before the first spring training game and 47 days before the season opener at Wrigley Field -- Epstein announced, again, that the goal of the 2012 Cubs "is to win the World Series."

every GM weenie today has been trained by the PR staff to regurgitate they are to be judged by championships. the bernsteins of this world have won and now everyone in sports from owner to coach knows to shout that boilerplate verbal diarrhea

an executive declaring he's to be judged by championships placates the stupid.

Winning the World Series and being competitive every year are not mutually exclusive. In fact, being competitive ever year puts the team in the best position to win a World Series. You're not going to piss on my parade. I am enjoying the season and the Plan fully aware that it does not mean next year will be this good but with the hope that this is only the beginning.

C'mon man, no one in their right fucking mind for one second EVER thought Grace was going to be better than Frank. That was never even close and certainly not in the same comps as Abreu v Rizzo.
