Look at your ballpark, and the White Sox offense. OPS+ can be severely flawed, and can inflate a good player playing on a shit team since it is weighted against all other at bats at that ballpark. Most people that bat at US Cellular do suck, because the White Sox offense sucks, and so any player that is actually a pretty good player will look excellent by comparison.

I've always heard OPS+ is a superior stat to OPS. Maybe I've heard wrong.

He slugged 50 points higher and got on base about the same. I'd call that significant. I'd call 50 more total bases pretty significant too.

I've always heard OPS+ is a superior stat to OPS. Maybe I've heard wrong.

OPS is a statistic. It cannot be argued. TB, walks, HBP...things that actually happen.

OPS+ can be useful, but it also can be very misleading. Again, it compares Abreu to his peers. And in this case, his peers are people that have many AB / PA at US Cellular field. And of course, most AB / PA would be from that ballpark's hometeam. And if those players are doing terrible, it brings down the Park Factor of that ballpark. So Abreu is now being compared against a bunch of people having a terrible year.

Conversely, many Cubs are having pretty solid offensive seasons. So the difference in OPS+ is actually saying "Abreu is 150% as good as the average White Sox / US Cellular visitor, and Rizzo is only 140% better than the average Cub / Wrigley visitor."

The park adjustment is run differential for three years. It includes sox and visitor. Why would sox being bad effect their home road scoring differential?

Actually, it's not. It hasn't resulted in him scoring any more runs than Abreu. This could lead us away from Cubs/Sox to a more productive discussion. As a philosophy, I am of the belief that if you aren't scoring a run and you're not driving one in, you're not doing a whole lot. All that extra OBP from Rizzo and for what? So he can score less runs than Abreu?

You've never conceded so quickly. I must have belted this one.

It was lucky. It would have been a flyout on a 70 degree calm day.

Percentage of at bats. Isn't that obvious?

I believe the numbers show that Obp correlates, with winning more than any other offensive stat

Out of all this trolling and nonsense, the dumbest Sox line is making fun of the Cubs for being in 3rd place, as though there is no context to their 3rd place status. They just happen to play in the best division in baseball and are leading the wild card by a number of games. And on top of that... the Sox are terrible.

If you're gonna troll, at least do it right.

It does not make me happy either. I want the Sox to be good. It would make these threads more interesting.

The context is that a couple short seasons ago, the losing didn't matter because only Championships mattered. Now that mantra has completely changed.

Is it ok for us to speculate when Arrieta has a season ending injury at least?

I don't know what this means. There is one team in Chicago that has a shot to win a championship this year, and it ain't the Sox.
