You seem to be out of touch with reality.
Add up all the Bill James gamescores and see who has had the better season.

Besides that, Sale has almost the same FIP in a league with the DH and far better K and K/W numbers. But I guess we're going to worry about stuff that is beyond the pitcher's control when it suits our argument.

Better get over to the Cardinal thread and join your fellow reasonable Cub fans who are banding together to get the best manager in baseball fired.

I have no idea what the game scores add up to. And anyway, I'm not a big fan of them.

Goddamnit JORR... if you're gonna take the stance that wins are the greatest indicator of success, at least concede that Arrieta has been better than Sale this year. It's a small sacrifice to maintain any semblance of consistency.

I'll try not to be offended that you don't capitalize my handle. Joe tells me to forgive you (Maddon, not Orr).

Favrefan is laughing at your post. Before long, you'll be spoon feeding dobermans and mumbling to them about RBI's.

It's not capitalized. I try to use the handles as their creators intended.

IMU isn't as SABRmetric as he likes to think.

Show me the metrics that you're choosing to go with.

So there's no confusion here, I think Arrieta is having a better season than Sale. That's largely based on W/L record (among other things). But you've repeatedly insisted that a pitcher be judged solely on the "things he can control". Those things are generally considered to be strikeouts, walks, and to a somewhat lesser degree, home runs. From a modern analytic standpoint, there is little doubt Sale's season is better. Simply put, he misses more bats. In addition, he walks fewer batters. The only thing he "controls" where he does worse than Arrieta is home runs allowed. And I would suggest that many of those homers allowed by Sale are "lucky home runs" in hitter friendly U.S. Cellular Field. Or does that only apply when Jose Abreu is batting?

Keep the ball down is universal to every ballpark. Additionally, you may have noticed how Wrigley Field has been playing in late summer? Go see how many home runs Arrieta is giving up. Anyway... a pitcher also has an influence on hits. You can tell because good pitchers give up less hits. Arrieta has a better WHIP. Arrieta has a better FIP. Their bb/9 are extremely close. And strikeouts versus outs don't matter when looking at final results like we are. A pitcher is trying to get outs while giving up no runs, or very few runs.

Arrieta does it better than anyone except Greinke this season...and has been top 5-10 since last season.

Go find me the SABR guy that says Sale is doing better in 2015. Until then...you're making up more shit than 312player.
