That doesn't sound like box office magic to me.

I don't know... I'm always very skeptical of women in athletics; I mean, I don't think the WNBA champions could even compete with a top men's high school team, and I thought the people who suggested Britney Griner could even compete for an NBA spot were out of their minds... but I'd have to think Rousey could take most men, no?

I would say we could comfortably file this away with WNBA and Brittany Griner. She's about 5' 6" 130 or so pounds? She's also of the female sex. The only men she's taking are beta-twinks and those that are so far out of shape that they couldn't walk up a flight of stairs.

If weight is even I'd still give it to the male if they are even decently in shape.

Yeah, I was taking size into consideration, but I guess I didn't think about how relatively small she actually is. 130 pounds is tiny. I have to disagree on the pound-for-pound, though. She could take most - not all - men of the same size. She's built like a man, and most 130 pound men are likely wearing Prada shoes and neatly-ironed skinny jeans.

Roadhouse is in the "Movies for Guys who like Movies" AKA The Lazy Guy TNT Saturday Club!

Deal with it!

This is probably top 2 or 3 for me for films and I love Rousey but I don't want to see another one especially with her in it. Chris Cyborg though was clearly on steroids. Rousey would fight her but in her weight class, the ufc would have to allow Cyborg in and cyborg who is supposed to be off gear would have to be tested. Not the same as Mayweather ducking Manny years ago.

Fair enough.

But I think you aren't fully taking into consideration the gulf in physical abilities between male and female. If those men her size had any training whatsoever she'd lose and lose badly. Untrained but in shape I'd say she may very well lose more than she wins. Not saying she'd wouldn't knock around some dudes but biology and testosterone are not walking through that door for her.

She's having her moment of Fame and making the most of it and that's great but there is a reason she isn't signing contracts to fight in the male division of UFC or whatever other MMA company.

SomeGuy you're underestimating how important fighting techniques are. She would destroy anyone who wasn't a trained fighter unless they looked like Brock Lesnar.

Yeah... we can all agree that women are terrible at sports. But if Britney Griner played the average man in 1-on-1, she would destroy him, not necessarily because of athletic ability, but because the average guy probably dribbles with two hands and shoots jumpers from his waist. Just like the average guy is not trained how to fight. I concur that trained male fighters would destroy her.

Disagree.

I'm not underestimating anything either, I'm giving it the weight it deserves within the context of our conversation. Also, the Brock Lesnar thing is just silly. Is that really where we are going with this? She'd "destroy" any untrained male that wasn't ~6' 4" and 270lbs?

C'mon man.

Yes, she would. I can gather from this exchange that you aren't very familiar with mma.

No. I'm familiar.

Next.

EDIT : I'd agree with you 100%, FavreFan, if we were talking male vs male. But we aren't, so I don't.

good cinema is a well made, well executed and written film. I shouldn't have to define that...it should be pretty easy to figure out. then you wouldn't have to ask if "die hard" is good cinema, because it's pretty obvious that it is. lazy man's movies can be good movies, too. see also "aliens".

"roadhouse" is a bad movie. it's fun bad, but it's bad.

Christ, I'm just like you. I came up the hard way, from the streets of Chicago.

You know, when I came to this town after Korea there was nothing!
I brought the mall here.
I got the 7-Eleven.
I got the Fotomat here.
Christ, JC Penney is coming here because of me!
You ask anybody, they'll tell you.

I'm obviously not a mma expert but I have a hard time believing most of the grappling moves would work with such a large difference in weight.

I'm pretty sure that she couldn't put him in a figure four leg lock.
