Charges filed against Willowbrook teen in Darien beating

e DuPage County State's Attorney's Office announced felony aggravated battery charges have been filed in juvenile court against a Willowbrook teenager accused of beating up a 53-year-old Sikh man in Darien on Tuesday.

The state's attorney's office reported that at about 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 8, Darien police responded to a battery call near Cass Avenue and 69th.

When investigators arrived, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in a statement, they found an injured Inderjit Mukker in the front of his car with "cuts and bruises on his cheeks."

Berlin said Mukker and the teenager who has been charged with the crime allegedly "were involved in a road rage incident" at some point.

"Following the altercation, Mukker and the defendant (allegedly) pulled their vehicles to the side of the road, where the teenager exited his vehicle and approached Mukker's," Berlin said. "Following an exchange of words between the two, the teenager allegedly punched Mukker in the face as he sat in his vehicle."

The state's attorney's office reported the teen then fled.

The teenager was not named in the statement, which also did not give the boy's age, but on Thursday, Darien police said the suspect in the beating case was 17.

Darien police officials said Mukker gave a description of the person who assaulted him and the license plate number of the car he was driving.

According to the state's attorney's office, when the police found the teenager at his house, he resisted arrest and punched a police officer in the face.

"Regardless of what was said or done by either of the parties allegedly involved in this incident, physical attacks will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law," Berlin said. "People have to remember that if you find yourself involved in a traffic altercation, stay calm and don't let your emotions get the better of you."

A Sikh organization has said Mukker was driving to a grocery store on South Cass Avenue when another driver began yelling at him, calling him a "terrorist" and "Bin Laden" and telling Mukker to "go back to your country."

Mukker, his family and other civil rights groups have called for the case to be prosecuted as a hate crime.

The Darien Police Chief Ernest Brown had said Thursday the police were investigating the incident as a hate crime.

If you had the slightest bit of self-awareness, people wouldn't come down so harshly on you. People don't mind your religious beliefs, but you continually push them on others and act as though you are the one who is persecuted or misunderstood.

You also preach as though you are somehow smarter than others, but your "arguments" are constantly destroyed... like, literally destroyed within a sentence or two of rebuttal... and you then come back and argue as though you have the upper-hand. Your posting has no redeeming value, and you constantly judge others within the context of a religious view that you can't seem to understand that very few people also believe.

I actually want to believe you are a good guy, but it's hard to believe, even when one is trying. You are judgmental, arrogant, and lacking any semblance of humility or reality. There is nothing wrong with being religious and believing in it strongly, but if you ever want anyone to take you seriously or believe the slightest bit of the bullshit you spew, take a step back and attempt to realize that your arguments are easily refutable. Try to realize that the world is full of beliefs and saying shit like "our Creator did... bla, bla, bla" is nothing more than an unsupported opinion that you have the right to believe but few others ever will. Try to espouse your views within the context of reality, not some shit you read out of a book and believe without waiver simply because you were told to.

I know for a fact that many honestly want to believe that you mean well, but you make it very difficult. I support, without reservation, your right to believe anything that works for you, as does pretty much everyone on this board.
