Cutler was never a top 5 qb. Angelo gave up way to much for this clown. Turnovers lose games, he's always been high ints n fumbles.

It was embarrassing from day 1 ..let's list the guilty parties.

Spanky
Dark side
Spaulding
Dolphin
Nas

Who else!

Good dolphin thought he was as good as Phillip Rivers. Not sure Darko belongs on that list.

Props to Rick and I for knowing he always sucked.

Did you know he sucked in 2009? Given the knowledge at the time, Angelo absolutely did the right thing. We all know/agree that if you've got a top five QB under center, you've got an easier path to the SB than most other teams. At the time there was little reason to doubt Cutler couldn't become that guy.

Im sure i said at the time here I was fine with the trade, as a GB fan. There was never any indication Cutler was going to become a top 5 guy. His numbers during his lone pro bowl season were unimpressive. I will admit I didn't think Cutler would be as bad as he has been the past six years.

Well, he doesn't suck. He's just not who you want as your quarterback, even if he is better than other poor options.

There was plenty of reason to doubt it. He was just a "pro bowl quarterback" so everyone went crazy. When you looked at what made him a pro bowl QB you realize that wasn't exactly something you want to build your team around. There was a reason that Denver gave up on him so quickly.

I'll admit to not knowing the details of his performance back then. I'll just say there was enough at the time to credibly argue that he could be as good as someone like Ryan or E Manning is today, at worst. So if you think he's that good or going to be that good then I personally make that trade 10 times out of 10, and especially at 25 years old (Cutler, not me).

The biggest red flag should have been that he was a "pro bowl qb" and the Broncos organization had no desire to keep him. Everyone made excuses about why they did it but no one gives up on a potentially elite qb like that so easily.

Look at the Bears. They made him the highest paid player in the league even after he had shown he wasn't elite.

There were signs, even in '09. It would have taken a very confident/adept GM to turn down a 25 year old QB with some of the best tools in the league, but there were definitely signs. As Rick mentioned, the fact that Denver didn't want him is one. And it's not as if he was a 25 YO Aaron Rodgers who was dominating the league and then just dropped off a cliff. His numbers fell when he came to Chicago, but the turnovers were always there and he wasn't a world beater in Denver (a young Pro Bowler, yes).

I'll agree there were signs, but I would imagine the vast majority of GM's would have drooled over a 25 YO Cutler. I would have made the deal in a second. But at the end of the day, we would have been wrong?... ar at least not as right as we thought (he was still an upgrade over what we had but not a guy to build a team around).

I have no problem with the acquisition, given the Bears QB history. The re-signing of Cutler to a huge deal when he had proven absolutely nothing is what was the bigger mistake.

Whenever I see or hear someone say probowl ..they lose all credibility. Vince Young made the PB so do other bums...guys back out or are injured or don't give a shit about that crappy game...Bums take their spots.
