I don't think Rizzo has worn down. His entire season has been streaky.

I can't wait for a full season from Bryant and Baez next season. The race to 200 strikeouts should be entertaining.

Unreal. Soria is a suckfest. Schwarber missing fastballs right down the middle that need to be hit a mile.

You have to have depth of pitching to be able to select a handful from ... or do you suppose that the starters won't ever fall apart, or maybe they'll just pitch Jake every game.

Nothing in that bullpen screams "we're fine" if (well, 'when' actually) the starter scuffles.

I still trust Rondon and Grimm. Ramirez will be ready for the playoffs, and I trust him. Richard has been largely successful at pitching important relief innings, and can come in and get a groundball when needed. Strop has the ability to be electric, and the Cubs could do worse. In the past, Wada has been good from the bullpen.

I don't find "team X could do worse" to be a particularly compelling reason to have faith in something like a bullpen's effectiveness when it matters.

and Madden pulled him.....I think Madden would have gone back in time and pulled him 1 batter earlier...

I love that Madden does that as the season winds down, put some pressure on these guys so they feel it....no need to arrive in the playoffs without a taste.

That's more on Montero. He's struggled throwing to second all season long. I believe statistically speaking, it's the worst he's ever been at it.

Yeah, his other job is to get a hit in the 9th. Doesn't Maddon believe in pinch hitting with some LH bats? If the Cubs had none on the bench, there is no excuse for that in September when you can call up more guys even if it's just to sit on their asses until called upon.

Castro slashes .385/.385/.462 versus Melancon for their careers.

Lester does not instill great confidence with all the pitches in the dirt and his inability to hold runners, nor throw to bases. Rarely do I feel relaxed when he's pitching. His ERA is respectable, but I feel like he gets himself into trouble more often than Patrick Kane on a Brewery tour.

A runner taking off too early doesn't really count. It wasn't a pickoff move that got him. Lester stepped off after the runner took off prematurely.

Just over 100 pitches, does Lester go for the complete game? Or does Joe Pull him and hand it over to Rondon? I say he goes to Rondon, but think he should let Lester finish it if he says he wants the ball in the 9th.
