I think it's the right move. Bullpen is shit right now and blew it for Lester vs the Cardinals. Let Lester win it or lose it. It's his game.

That last pitch was barely above his ankles.

That Pitch-Track is garbage. Not even close.

Pitched a good game and glad he finished it. Hopefully the bullpen gets another day off tomorrow and is a little fresher and better for it.

You do know that it's where the ball crosses the plate, not where it's caught that counts don't you?

You know, for all the shit we give Lester, he's a treat to watch when he is on. Arrieta has better stuff but Lester is better at spotting pitches. It's a fun 1-2 punch when everything is working.

Be great to see Arrieta go out there tomorrow and go "Oh yea? Well watch this" and proceed to shit all over the Jolly Roger with a shutout.

They still need another starter though. Hammel and Hendricks ain't gonna cut it if they can get past the wildcard game.

A runner taking off too early doesn't really count. It wasn't a pickoff move that got him. Lester stepped off after the runner took off prematurely.

That is a pickoff. Sorry you disagree. But it counts.

It may be scored as a pickoff, but it was not the result of a move to 1st base by Lester COMPLETE with a throw (not underhanded and not the little toss he made tonight while running towards first) to the first baseman. No, it was the result of a runner leaving 1st base early. He never made a single true pickoff throw to Rizzo in the game.

It was the result of Lester holding on a baserunner and not letting him get the timing down to successfully run on Lester.

Lester picked a runner off.

#ProblemSolved.

I predict now, that after the Cubs beat the Pirates in the Wildcard game and advance to play the Cardinals in the NLDS, Lester's inability to throw to the bases will be tested and exposed repeatedly. I hope I am wrong. I think he will lose not one, but 2 games in that series, as the Cubs are eliminated. the Cardinals will bunt in situations one would not normally bunt, just to make him field the ball and make throws. Also, they will steal bases often. They are a smart team and will prey on the weakness. Did you notice in the game VS the Arizona Diamondbacks the opposing pitcher tried to bunt on him twice while at bat, including with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs? That was brilliant. All a team has to do is drop bunts down about 10 feet up the 3rd base line and it is likely to be a hit. If he does throw, it may result in extra bases on an error. he's a fine pitcher, as long as all he has to do is throw to the catcher. hey, I hope I'm wrong and he WINS 2 games in that series.

I am very clear on what I expect to happen. But being a Cubs fan, I hope Lester's weaknesses are not exposed to their detriment and they win the games he starts instead. But I think those weaknesses will be exploited by the Cardinals. They tried a couple times to bunt on him in St Louis but fouled off the pitches. I expect them to try more of it in a playoff game, where every run is so crucial.

Not that the Cubs will catch them, but a Win in game 2 by Pirates would have all but sealed it. 6 games is so much bigger than 4 at this point

Problem not completely solved, but Lester gets credit for the whole sequence. He even fucked up McCutchen's timing at the plate

Ive been saying he doesnt even have to throw, just step off. The freeze is just as good.

Many of the Cubs' major hitters hit Burnett well. None of the Pirates hit Arrieta well.

Looks good on paper.

Its going to be a huge kick in the nutz when the Cubs knock Pittsburgh out of the playoffs next month.

I would rather have Baez at 2nd n sit Castro.

Who was it again that didn't know Bryant can 5 positions?

You want to sit the Cubs' better hitter against Burnett, and hottest hitter at the moment?

Good Lord.

I want to sit the guy who cost us a win with his shitty defense . I'd argue Bryant n Fowler are hotter.
