Castro n Schwarber for Robertson n Quintana

Quintana is a #3 or 4 starter. You don't trade a Schwarber in a deal that doesn't include a top of the rotation starter. Make it Sale and Robertson and you have my attention. Robertson is overpaid, but still would be a slight upgrade over Rondon and make the bullpen that much stronger through greater depth.[/quote

Quintana is a 3 in the A.L. that makes him a 2 in the N.L. n Robertson would be our best arm in the pen. Its a no brainer for the Cubs to make that deal.

Just curious. What do you expect Schwarber to play defensively?

On the Cubs he would definitely follow Arrita and Lester. On any good team, he's a #3 at best.

I think outfield if he stays with the Cubs. With another team could have been first base too. I don't like him behind the plate. But I didn't like Soriano as an outfielder and after a few seasons, he improved to the point of adequacy. If Schwarber can just be average defensively at Catcher, that would be fine. But I don't think that's likely. He's a very good athlete and has surprising speed for a guy his size. Let him play LF and rake!

We are talking about Robertson like he is Rivera or Sutter in his prime. Good closer, not worth giving up a lf prospect who can drop 30 hrs. Put me in stathead camp that believes paying big bucks to closers is a waste of money.

Oh really? You would not want a (for the most part) lockdown guy like Robertson in the Cubbies pen?

Not for 3 more years at $11.5M and whatever players the White Sox would demand. No one wants that.

Rondon 28 out of 32 in save situations, Mariano Robertson 29 out of 35.

It's pretty funny to see a guy that a lot of Cubs fans hate suddenly become good when they compare him to a White Sox player.

Its also funny to see Cubs fans calling him "Mariano Robertson"-- something which NO Sox fan has ever implied --after some of them have already started building the Cubs Prospect Wing at Cooperstown.

ChitownEddie says it in jest (see the word LIKE)

and you take issue and then refer to Robertson as a "lockdown guy"

You know as well as I do that there are quite a few Cubs fans who post here that do not say anything in jest...especially about the White Sox.

it'd be so Sox to finish 11th thereby requiring them to forfeit their 1st rounder if they sign a QO guy.

maybe that's good thing? no more terrible free agent signings like robertson

Except for the Yankees and Blue Jays just a few short weeks ago. Most likely a host of other teams in the off season as well.

Not sure there will be room with all the Gordon Beckham gear that will be on display.

frank, your crybaby bitch attitude regarding valid criticism of the white sox needs to be toned down.

robertson was a terrible signing. everyone without sox shades knew it the minute it was announced.

rebuilding teams do not need a $11.5M 30 year old closer. he's a "final piece' signing for a team.

All of this is in jest. And IMU is the most objectionable baseball poster on the board.

Whatever you Cubs fans are drinking, pass some this way.

Didn't some team put a waiver claim on him?

Not even jest. ChicagoEd literally said the word like. As if to say "Let's not make Robertson out to be Rivera" and he was talking to another Cub fan.

yes, it was a "block". the yankees had no intention of acquiring him.

Yes. As I wrote earlier, the Yankees put a claim on him to block the Blue Jays from putting a claim on him, so there are at least two teams who didn't have a problem with his contract or production.

It isn't a terrible signing because the Sox could trade him for talent immediately if they so chose or they could give his contract to another team. There has been no downside to that signing so far.

They were obviously prepared to take on the value of the contract.

You're planning on having some Mimosa's somewhere? You certainly will not be celebrating a Cubs playoff series victory.

PittMike and I are planning on beer, lots of it. One of us will be happy after the one game playoff, and the other will need to be heavily medicated.

Rondon making 544000 this year. Robertson will be making 13 million in 2018 when he is 33. Bad signing but Hahn won the offseason.

incorrect.

the opportunity cost of not having $11.5M to spend was the downside with the signing. add the duke signing and that's $16M/yr that could've been better allocated to upgrade everyday players.

also delusional to think anything but floatsam will come back in a trade for robertson.
