That was a great game. I wish Arrieta had gotten the win, but that was great theater.

That was a good game. If the wildcard game is like this one was that would be fun and exciting.

If there was ever a good time for Hendricks to come up with a great game, it's tomorrow.

First sign of trouble Hendricks out Wood-wada-Richard move in.

Good win and valuable experience for the young players.

Most importantly, Arrieta wasn't afraid of the big stage so you know they have a good chance in the wildcard game.

Lineup I WANT:

Fowler CF
Schwarber LF
Rizzo 1B
Bryant RF
Baez 3B
Montero C
Hererra 2B
Hendricks P
Russell SS

I play Hererra at 2nd rather than Castro, for better defense not just on balls hit to him, but on throws to 2nd on attempted stolen bases, where he has let throws by him into CF the past 2 games. He HAS to stop the ball on those throws. It cost the Cubs the 1st game of the series.

NO. They are planning to use those guys for another bullpen start this weekend to skip Hammell's next start. Hammell has not been right physically for a couple months and they are going to try to get him extra rest and hope it helps him to increase his effectiveness once again. Otherwise, they may not be able to use him in a playoff rotation. he has been mostly mediocre/bad for a couple months now.

And believe me folks, when it comes to mediocre/bad, this guy knows what he's talking about.

I'm a very happy Cubs fan. I will have dreams tonight of burning down the Jolly Roger. Win tomorrow, dammit.

It's the name of the pirate flag they raise when they win but one of the urban dictionary definitions is great.

"When a Packers fan is anally fisted by Aaron Rogers and waved above his head, mimicking the flag on the mast of a pirate ship.

In the locker room after the game, Jake was pleasantly surprised when he received a Jolly Roger from his idol."

Castro saved the game last night with that ball hit up the middle. You play your best players and he is one of them, like it or not. Hererra rather than Castro. GTFOH with that crap. Is Hererra half white or something?

Bryant is costing us runs in bunches with his strikeouts and mental approach at the plate. He needs to relax and play ball.

Nice win.

I hope pittmike is OK. he appeared to be really invested (life savings? month's liquor fund?) in the pirates winning yesterday.

Just as you can say Rizzo and Bryant have had some good swings, that resulted in outs over the past games, the Pirates had some good swings at Jake last night. HAd some really hard hit balls into that monster OF and some solid Line Drives.

Might be better to play them in Pitt for that Wildcard???

i love beating the cardinals and reds b/c they're teams full of pricks and fucks.

i don't "enjoy" beating the pirates as I think they're cool as hell. a lot of cool players, cool jerseys, and love the jolly roger thing.

pirates in general are cool as hell.

Yeah, I like the Pirates. I hope the Cubs and Pirates are fighting for years with the Cardinals fading into the ether.

Anyways, playing Herrera over Castro is crazy talk. Herrera's defense isn't known as being great. He is serviceable, as most utility guys are. Castro has excellent range, and gets to balls many other middle infielders cannot. He covers ground...and while he fucks up the routine play...he also makes the impossible play possible. He is frustrating...but still gives you a better chance to win that others, including Herrera.

When Bryant is in RF, Castro should be at 2B. When Bryant is at 3B, Castro is on the bench.

Agree completely. I only want them to fail because of the Cubs. Everything about them is cool and McCutchen is my favorite non-Chicago athlete.

One guy that's really good but always freaks me out is Starling Marte.
He and Hunter Pence seem to have the same genetic disorder that makes them seem very odd but both great players.
They both always seem as if they've been doing the robot dance for the last 24 hours and just can't get the muscle memory to stop.

The last Cubs bullpen day...the pitching was excellent. Cubs needed to hit the ball.

The Grimm inning sucked, but he has been good. That won't happen often.

I get that but look how much better Bryant is at home compared to on the road.
I'll take my chances at Wrigley with Arrieta.

To be fair...even though Bryant has mountains of RBI, he has struck out in a ton of runner on 3rd with less than 2 out situations this year.

More of those than Addison thrown bats, which is also a large number.

I'm in the extreme minority, but I'd rather see the Cardinals as the opponent in a wild card game. So I was pulling for a Pirates sweep. Too bad.
