If you want to talk about opportunity cost, you should be talking about Adam LaRoche. As dolphin said, a Robertson trade would bring back talent and the Sox would only have to pick up a minimal amount of his contract at most.

IMU, I'll say this about you. You certainly are more objective than Kirkwood.

i would suggest taking off the sox shades and looking at your team, its talent and contracts without sox shades. much of your opinions and analysis are full of runaway bias and lack any type of nuance.

good dolphins says a lot of stupid shit but his are fanciful quips to needle cubs fans rather than his true opinion.

Just curious, what do you think you can get for Robertson?

Bad signing agreed..but only because I had the Sox at 78 wins..But Robertson has been pretty good..he's better than anyone in our pen.

The 11 million ? Chump change man..how many millions were wasted on Soriano,Jackson,Rodney, ?

Opinion based on absolutely nothing.

They were reported to be working on a trade with the Jays. The Yankees obviously believed this to be true in blocking him. Now, if the Jays were going to give them nothing and they were fine with that return why not let the Yankees have him?

It isn't a terrible signing because the Sox could trade him for talent immediately if they so chose or they could give his contract to another team. There has been no downside to that signing so far.

incorrect.

the opportunity cost .

They were almost universally praised for "winning the off season". They made the moves they wanted to make. There was no opportunity cost in the move.

Johnson working deep counts on every hitter again. He gets ahead of the hitters but can't put em away. Maybe with more major league experience he'll start trusting his stuff because it's better than the five and dive guy he looks like now.

Stone just said the scout who signed him scouted for 20 years and he was the only player he ever signed. I know things were different back then but I find that impossible to believe. It took the team 20 years to figure out he may have missed a few hundred players over the years??

Stone didnt have a great career, he had one great year...and his Cy Young year wasnt even that great, it was just in a time when guys stayed in games longer, so Stone was the benefit of HR team in BAlt and he got 25 wins...So maybe the Scout wasnt that good?

You bash Stone's career, but were OK with Santo going into the HOF. OK then.

if a scout kept sending in reports on 5'9" pitchers would you sign any of them?

In 1969 a 5'9" college right hander with a plus curveball. Yeah I'd give him a shot.

Jays did not have serious interest. They acquired LaTroy Hawkins, Mark Lowe, and planned on having Marcus Stroman back leading to a SP getting kicked to the bullpen.

Add the taking on of salary with Price and Tulowitzki at the deadline and common sense tells you they were only kicking the tires if the White Sox ate significant salary.

Yankees had no interest at all other than a pre-emptive block. Otherwise they would've re-signed Robertson instead of signing Miller during the off-season.

This isn't FA. There is no "kicking the tires." You make a claim, you are prepared to pay that salary. That is a fireable offense for a GM otherwise...unless it is KW.

Very wrong. Claims are frequently made knowing the possessing team will not part with the player.

The Sox are too proud to admit Robertson signing was a huge blunder. Letting a team assume his remaining $36M in salary without compensation is the correct choice. Please remember this is a team that is still trotting out Gordon Beckham. This franchise is never believes they are wrong.

So then why did the Yankees in your words just do it to block the Blue Jays?
