Russell or Baez?

Defensively, who do you want? Then factoring the total package of the player who do you want at SS?

Both have questions at the plate but both look great at SS.

My preference is Baez. I'm a sucker for flashy. Baez has a HYPERLOOP for an arm!!!!

Total package I lean Russell. Lower ceiling but a lot more reliable.

Beyond this year I like Bryant at 3B, Baez SS, Russell 2B. Russell has an average arm.

I doubt Russell continues to play the good soldier if he sees himself playing 2B for the next five years. On the other hand, guys with a .690 OPS aren't in a position to argue.

Russell seemed a lot more comfortable at the plate since they moved him back too short which is his original position.
I think he was having some problems mentally from making the switch to second.
That said, I think that Baez is the shortstop because of his arm and you lose nothing from his glove playing there.
Russell is just going to have to get comfortable with playing second.
3B - Bryant
SS - Baez
2B - Russell
1B - Rizzo
Looks pretty damned good to me!

How about this?
Play Castro at 2B and move Russell for a starting pitcher?

Thats the real answer. Baez is a better SS, but you dont have a better 3B...so he gets he gig.

As I have been dropping Wisdom for a year, Baez is the best SS. Just go to a game and watch warmups, watch how smooth he is and his arm is much better than anyone else. He attacks the balls moving forward and it gets there on a rope.

I'm sure we will hear how happy everyone is because of their defense when they are both hitting sub .240 at the end of next year

I'll wait until one of these guys (excluding Bryant) can give me at least .270/.340/.430 before deciding if they are on my big league team next season as everyday players.

Schwarber or Soler will need to be traded if Bryant is going to play the outfield. Don't see it happening.

Bryant 3B Russell SS Baez 2B

I'd trade em both for pitching.

Soler might need to find a new home this offseason. I hope Fowler comes back.

I said in spring training that Russell was the SS and he is very good there. He does not have the arm Baez has, but he's steadier and I want Baez at 3rd. Bryant is a fine 3rd baseman. He has done well there, improving his defense noticeably. But Baez is mush more fluid and gets rid of the ball a lot faster. he can make plays on bunt and slow rollers that Bryant cannot make. Bryant plays well in the outfield and his speed is a bigger asset out there. The only question is 2B. LaStella, Coghlan or Castro? I like Coghlan. I know he's not a great defender, but he wasn't a real good outfielder and dramatically improved there. I think if they work with him, he will turn himself into a decent 2nd baseman. It's where he started out playing too. They could use Coglan and Castro in a platoon there too, though that's a lot of money to pay Castro to be a platoon player.
