He is really weird but he's a black republican so we can't say anything. His mother raised him with a lot of government assistance but we can't talk about that either since he wants to take away government assistance from mothers in similar predicaments.

"I'm all for helping the people in New Jersey. I don't really remember me voting that way," Graham said.

Pressed further, he said: "Anyway, I don't really recall that, but I'd be glad to look and tell you why I did vote no, if I did."

That is some funny stuff.

All politics are local. Then there's that SC primary.

I could post this in just about any of these political threads but the Venn diagram of sports team support / political leanings from this sites board members is very interesting.

If I have to explain it it's not worth explaining.

I assume that's a joke but I certainly like a few aspects of the Libertarian school of thought.

I'm definitely not a Democrat. I would much rather give my money to charity (which I do) than support methods that are often enabling people to not strive for greatness or at worse be the stereotypical person that I see using a Link card (yes super long discussion there).

I'm a registered Republican but hate running on social issues, believe pot and prostitution should be legal, fine with gay marriage (not the phony Bernstein wedding planner version).

I think we're pretty close in terms of ideology. I want small government and that includes on social issues. Where I think our government fails most (meaning where I would spend a lot more dollars/effort) is in providing a good education for all children. We can't expect children to compete in the workplace when they are getting a terrible public school education. It's a lot more than just throwing dollars at it, but that is certainly a big part of the equation.

I've been a registered republican since 2012 but I am not actually a Republican. I'm all over the map with my views so I'm not sure what box I would put myself in. I'll let others do that.

I've drifted away from Republicans as they have moved so far into crazy social issue land. The Planned Parenthood stuff is the latest example. And don't get me started on gay marriage....

How about passing a budget or transportation bill?

Funny thing is that this falls largely in line with most of us around here, regardless of party affiliation. Imo, that's really the sad victim of big money in politics.

Dennis is one of the thoughtful Libertarians. It's too bad his kind gets stereotyped with some of the "less thoughtful" ones.

It's also too bad that "enabling people to not strive for greatness" isn't seen by most as the canard it is.

Rubio & Condi is my dream ticket. I hope Rice gets back into politics some day.

Hard to believe, but Condi made $75 Million last year & has a net worth of $215 Million.

No... Republicans who call themselves Libertarians.

I've always found that funny. I understand being too embarrassed to identify as a Republican, but don't hijack another political party's label if you aren't even going to pretend to understand and agree with the positions of that party.

Well, I think Republicans also get confused. They spew so much disingenuous bullshit about fiscal responsibility that eventually, they actually believe they are Libertarians. Also, birth control.

I think the main problem is that people will agree with one or two libertarian ideas, like legalizing weed or not bombing the shit out of international aid hospitals, and then are fine with saying they are libertarian or that they lean libertarian. Many of these same people would vehemently disagree with libertarians on gun control, freedom of speech, overall drug legalization, etc. It's really the same problem all over the political spectrum: uneducated voters spewing bullshit and attempting to persuade other uneducated voters.

It's too bad CNN didn't burn this guy in that article with quotes from when he didn't vote for nynj relief. They certainly could have found something. Why didn't they?

It's sad that with the thousands of issues we may or may not agree with people expect you to identify as one of two or three groups. I don't agree with 50% of the garbage that either the Republicans or Democrats spout. Libertarians either. I'll take 33% from each and call my self a repubicratatarian
