i am still at a loss about this whole pitcher batting 8th bullshit. i hated when larussa did it and i still hate it with maddon doing it, and neither guy has ever given a good explanation as to why this is such a brilliant move. time and time again the fucking pitcher spot is popping up in the worst possible times. I'm a fan of maddon and i like the way he manages overall, but the whole arrogance he and larussa and any other manager who chronically has done or continues to do this like they have solved a big mystery every other manager in baseball has somehow missed really pisses me off.

Think of it this way

In reality the highest Obp guy or best hitter should bat first and so on. So really, every traditional lineup with a leadoff guy and clean up hitter is really not maximizing their offense. LaRussa and Maddon are just taking it one more step

I'm with you but the baseball savants on here think it makes sense. My argument is you keep the worst hitter as far away from the heart of your order as possible. That's why pitchers have batted 9th since 1876.
