its not as good as colbert report because it has to stay rated G.

but colbert is outstanding in interviews. the show is still funny, and i think its going to get a lot better as time goes on and they zero in on their audience. right now they are playing to a "letterman" crowd, but i think that will change. there has been some scripted stuff that has totally bombed, but colbert learned a great lesson from his friend conan- NEVER show defeat. the best thing about 9 years on the cobert report is steven can always tap his old character to come off as "trump" like. never losing, never wrong, always entertaining.

im really glad they kept the colbert report format too. this isnt letterman's show, and thank god for that. plus, all the big name players love steven, so the super stars will keep showing up as guests. he has a good chance at being the next johnny carson.

I don't think there are going to be any more Carson/Letterman tenures in late night. Colbert could do a great job with the show, but not for 30 years.

Colbert might be even a tougher interview than shows like Meet the Press. Ted Cruz got grilled last night.

But he still managed to treat him w/ respect.

Not sure Trump will get the same consideration. I expect Trump to be at full jagoff mode, & hopefully Colbert tears him another asshole.

I think The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been fantastic thus far. He's much better than any of the other four guys. I love how he's ditched the traditional monologue and instead doing it behind a desk. And it's usually a single-subject piece. I'll always miss Craig Ferguson's interviews though. Those were so free-flowing and you never knew where they'd go.

Not an avid watcher yet, but when I do catch it, it's clearly made significant leaps forward. He's not going anywhere any time soon. Seems like it's already settled back into the NBC for the vapid, CBS for people looking for something with teeth dichotomy.

I still have my teeth and enjoy it. I never watched one minute of his old show but have become a fan.
He is very sharp and will make me laugh on occasion. He was great with Trump last night, followed by the strange little man who is the Secretary of Energy.

Colbert's first question to the SoE:I didn't ask Trump this but I'll ask you: Is that your real hair?

Funny that it's traditionally been the inverse in prime time.

welp, now that we've got a couple months of the show i think it's fair to say that we've seen what it's all about now.

basically it's a watered down populist version of the colbert report, and stephen essentially plays his character with almost the exact same mannerisms and schtick and whatnot.... it's just that he isn't Dr. Stephen T. Colbert DFA Champion of the World or whatever "formally" espousing right wing viewpoints... he's just stephen colbert doing his thing.

essentially after the first few mins of monologue you get two segments of newschool-populist-repor before it's like 10:57 and you can turn it off because guests are coming and nobody cares about those. at least on the repor he got more interesting guests and he used his character to have fun with the improv..... but now on CBS with the late show he's just a vapid =)ing ass-kisser celebophile and yeah, i dont really care for that esp considering i was always out after the 2nd segment of the report.

so yeah, idk why he's gotta have a band other than it's a late night talk show and that's just what you do (and jon batiste, man, whenever i see him dancing a jig at the intros/pre-monologue i'm just like "mannnnnnnnnnnn" cuz steretypes and all, but yeah he has a creepy-perma-grin as if to say I'M REALLY REALLY HAPPY HERE..... I LOVE BEING STEPHEN'S BLACK FRIEND! (and if you remember the report, man, he had a famous picture of him and his black friend =) or whatever... i wouldnt be surprised that if the guy actually has some legit musical chops/drive he pulls a branford marsalis and gets the fuck out of dodge after collecting 1-3yrs of nice big-n-easy paychecks to set himself up)

AHEM. yeah i mean i just dont care much for the late night talk show conventions, but you can tell that this is stephen's dream gig so he's there to play ball and literally give us a show that's a hybrid half-report/half-talkshow, and they're kind enough to get the report over with by 11 with only a pretty quick commercial break in between the two report segments, so if i'm up and watching TV and it's on i'll go to it, but i dont think it's appointment TV like the first ~4+ seasons of the report were. and i dont think i'll ever get those back, but hey stephen is getting paid and i guess he wants to be famous and loved and a big deal as opposed to being chris morris, so god bless him.....

...but i'll be out by 10:57 or so, dont mind me.

Why the drop? A piece this week over at Mediaite suggests Colbert’s strong political leanings are to blame, citing a recent Hollywood Reporter poll that shows the former Colbert Report mastermind has—by far—the most politically polarized following among the top late night hosts. (Only 17 percent of the Colbert viewers polled identified as Republicans, as opposed to 47 percent as Democrats, a far less even mix than his two competitors, especially Kimmel, who’s pretty much dead even.) Colbert’s drawn strong praise for not abandoning his political satire roots in the move to CBS, but it’s possible that his sharpened sensibilities don’t mesh well with the apolitical blandness of late-night talk.

He had Bill Maher on the other day. That angries up the blood!

Colbert's 2nd guest of most evenings is usually some kind of political person. He is trying to educate his audience. He can go to CNBC for that kind of show. 10:30 at night, people want mindless humor and bubble-headed blonde actresses.

Well you're in luck; the commercial just said Tuesday's show has Justin Bieber!

This clown will end up sharing stories of what could have been with Conan.

http://www.avclub.com/article/colbert-slipping-ratings-228790

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is slipping in the ratings & is now in last place.

Two months into his tenure as the king of CBS late night talk, Stephen Colbert has slipped into third place in the primetime rankings, falling behind competing hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel.

Fallon’s dominance isn’t really surprising; he’s got the cachet of The Tonight Show behind him, and his viral-friendly shenanigans were handily thrashing Colbert’s Late Show predecessor Dave Letterman well before Colbert stepped in to fill his shoes. The Kimmel thing is slightly more alarming for Late Show fans, though, since Colbert spent his first several weeks running well ahead of the former Man Show star. But now, with the hype around the show’s September premiere fading, the two hosts are running roughly neck and neck, trading off weeks and battling for the honor of coming in second to Jimmy Fallon’s reuniting of the cast of Roundhouse, or playing spin the bottle with Liam Neeson, or whatever pre-packaged fun the Tonight Show host is hocking this week.

(Back-up theory: Nobody trusts a talk show host who isn’t named Jimmy. This one might require some more research to fully flesh out.)

His show sucked on Comedy Central, I hope he tanks in ratings and goes away.

So far you are 2 for 3. You will be 3 for 3 at some point in the near future.

Doubt CBS really gives a shit. They are paying him way less than Dave and they own the show now.

Meanwhile the leftist rants of Seth Meyers on his show have really turned me off. I don't mind the ripping of Republican candidates but he never says anything about Hillary. Typical of an SNL Alum from NU.
