So then why did the Yankees in your words just do it to block the Blue Jays?

easy. although i speak in absolutes the reality is there is a non-zero chance the Sox admit their mistake in signing Robertson, eat substantial salary and trade him to blue jays. sure, it's like .0005% but by blocking it's 0%.

it's a risk free move.

Add the taking on of salary with Price and Tulowitzki at the deadline and common sense tells you they were only kicking the tires if the White Sox ate significant salary.

Yankees had no interest at all other than a pre-emptive block. Otherwise they would've re-signed Robertson instead of signing Miller during the off-season.

This isn't FA. There is no "kicking the tires." You make a claim, you are prepared to pay that salary. That is a fireable offense for a GM otherwise...unless it is KW.

Very wrong. Claims are frequently made knowing the possessing team will not part with the player.

The Sox are too proud to admit Robertson signing was a huge blunder. Letting a team assume his remaining $36M in salary without compensation is the correct choice. Please remember this is a team that is still trotting out Gordon Beckham. This franchise is never believes they are wrong.

Out.

I'm not going to follow you chasing your tail on this one.

robertson won't be traded until july of the last year of his contract. he's stuck saving games the next two years for a 70 win team. doubt he cares and he got paid and he'll get many days off pitching for a loser.

He's not pinch hitting for Abreu. Robin pulled Abreu back after Saladino grounded into a double play. And there's not a man on but besides that you're all over it

I think he figured it out.

No money for Shark, let Johnson get a full time stab at it.

Pitching isn't really the issue.

Agreed - Johnson needs to cut down on his walks, and I'd like to see him get into the 7th+, but I've been encouraged by him. I think, so far, he's the front-runner for 5th starting spot (or 4th depending on how Danks is viewed). I'd like to see that spot have competition with one of their other younger pitchers.

With Sale, Quintana, and Rodon in the top of the rotation, they are capable of getting good to great starts on a consistent basis.

I don't think Shark should be brought back, but I'd be willing to gamble that he won't accept a 1 year QO deal. I know Gammons said he would accept, but other national writers (Heyman, Rosenthal) think there is still a good market for him despite this season. I still think he's going to end up with a deal at least as good as the Cubs offered him, and maybe more. In any case, I think the White Sox need as many draft picks as possible to continue to adding to their farm system.

Outside of resigning Albers, the pitching staff is probably set.

The only variable to consider is that the White Sox consider using Quintana to get back some offensive pieces that they can plug in. With holes at 3B, SS, C, and DH (although we know La Roche wlll get some of those AB's), they may have to get creative in how they address the offense. I'm not comfortable with Carlos Sanchez at 2B either, but there are so many holes to fill and they need to improve the defense as well.

I'm still not sure how Tryce Thompson fits in here either with Carbrera, Eaton and Garcia in the OF. Garcia hasn't played well, but I don't think they are going to give up on him.

I'm afeared they will trade Quintana.

A. that rotation looks much less solid without him, and
B. I don't trust their talent evaluation AT ALL.

2016

1. Sale
2. Rodon
3. Quintana
4. Danks
5. Johnson

Fulmer can move into Danks' spot in 2017. Now, they just need to find some bats.

It's the time of year when bums like this spin no-hitters vs. depleted lineups filled with minor leaguers.

Look at guys 5-9 in that Tigers' lineup. No Cabrera today either.

Sanchez with 3 hits today. He shouldn't be losing playing time to Micah Johnson. Sanchez has a much better chance of being a long term option at 2B than Johnson does. I would like to see Johnson get some starts in left field.
