What is the qualifying offer? 1 year for how much money?

If the White Sox were to extend that, does another team lose that pick if they sign him or do the White Sox receive a sandwich pick between rounds?

As much as I don't want to give him money on a long-term deal based on his performance, I still want that draft pick as building through the minor leagues need to be the focus. I'd still guess that he wouldn't take it if offered, but, should he surprise me and take it, perhaps one last chance to get a long-term deal would be motivation? It wasn't this season obviously.

If he does come back though, he'd have to open as the #4 starter in the rotation behind Sale, Quintana and Rodon.

The qualifying offer would be 16 million. he is 1-8 with an ERA just over 8.00 since August 1st.

That figure changes each year and is based on the top 125 salaried ballplayers for that season. Currently, the figure would be approximately 16 million.

Gotta love some whitesox post game. They put a graphic showing who's not hot after the all star break and it is Trevor Bauer listed as not hot instead of the Shark.

I think I have to put a call in tomorrow about this subject. Shark is 1-8 since August 1st with an ERA over 8.00. Is it prudent for the Sox to make a qualifying offer for 16 million, or do they let him walk without compensation, for fear he may get no better offers and decide to take it and hope that a better season results in offers more to his liking?

Thankfully Samardzija is already rich and can afford to make 50 million dollar gambles.

Big Purple just said he turned down 5/85 but yeah the reality is even if he makes 30 million the rest of his career he's not going to be standing in a bread line. His arrogance that he could do better than 85 million and has never shown he "deserves" it is what makes me happy to see him suck.

On M&H this AM, Bruuuuuuce says Shark would not accept a qualifying offer so it's OK to offer him one. Says Shark wouldn't want to stay where he had such a difficult time. Plus, as Mully pointed out, no pitcher has ever accepted one of those qualifying offers.
However it turns out, the Sox will have been found to have made the wrong decision.

That is probably based on a feeling or even information he was told at some point in the past. If the guy has a ERA north of 5, he's not going to get the long-term deal he was expecting for. He may still get a long-term deal because a lot of teams probably do think he can turn things around for them, but he's going to have to take less money than he originally would have thought heading into this season.

I don't think he's take the qualifying offer and it's a big risk to be on the hook for that kind of money on a 1 year deal, but I would lean 55%-45% to offering it, hoping he turns it down, but knowing it's only a 1 year deal. To me, that draft pick is worth the gamble.

Is he referring to the major leagues?

I think I would probably sign the QO at $16M, if I were Shark. He is a better pitcher than he has shown this season. Not much mileage on the arm, so the injury risk would be worth it to me.

One great start in 2 months and all the mlb network boys declare he's getting a hundred million .
