The Cubs have swept the Brewers in the last 2 series they faced each other, winning those 7 games many times looking like men against boys after the brewers had traded away Gomez and Ramirez just before the deadline. Jason Hammel has gotten a bit of extra rest and will start tonight's game VS Wily Peralta. The Brewers have been playing better of late and may be looking to exact some revenge for all the beatings the Cubs have dealt them of late. With Arrieta going for his 20th win again in the middle game of the series, I am going to suggest that 2 of 3 is a very obtainable goal in this series. Though another sweep would be helpful in trying to get that top wildcard spot. Honestly, I don't think that it matters much. With Arrieta pitching the wildcard game and the Cubs having one of the top road records in baseball, it's only important so that Cubs fans have the chance to be in attendance for the game. But for now, lets keep dominating the Brewers.

I'm still mildy upset about yesterday. That one just really struck a nerve with me and I'll have no patience tonight for shit pitching from Hammel. I want a sweep.

Id expect an emotional letdown from them after St Loo. Brewers take 2/3.

At this point it looks like Hendricks is the #3 guy if they get into the main dance. Try to let that sink in for a bit.

I'd go with Haren 3. His biggest weakness is the HR ball...and fly balls just don't carry as well in October. His WHIP is good... and he has pitched to a low 3.00 ERA recently.

Another bad send but luckily Rizzo was safe. Maddon needs to have a talk with whoever the 3rd base coach is though.

Don't know if I dig these risky sends.

I don't watch a lot of Brewers baseball but every time I do it seems like Scooter Gennett is doing something stupid.

You mean like trying to bunt with two outs and a man on second? (Who was there only due to the gift of Fowler's error.)

Or trying to take two bases on a wild pitch and getting tagged out at third with nobody out?

Well, I mean, technically he was safe.

But it was still too close and he should not have done it.

Also, that might have been the most conclusive inconclusive replay to date.

I thought Hammel looked real good at times last night. Id still pitch him 3. The ceiling is higher and Haren and Hendricks will probably still give up 4.

So Id rather take the chance Hammel has a great night.

Btw

WC game on Wednesday: Arietta
Then possibly

NLDS Game 1 on friday: Lester
Game2 on saturday: H_____
Game 3 on Monday: Arietta
Game 4 tuesday: H____
Game 5 thursday: Lester

Hammel has given up 4 runs or more in 10 starts this season.

Hendricks... 11 times

Haren... 9 times

They are all very consistent at having bad starts.

Top 3 records in all of MLB reside in the NL Central. Cards, Bucs, Cubs...

Crazy.

Agree with you on that...thought he was safe by an eyelash and since he was originally called safe there wasn't enough to overturn.

Hammel has gotten worse every month, his August n September starts have been abysmal. Richard n Wood are just as competent as The 3 H's .

They briefly mentioned that there's no guarantee that if Jake had stayed in Baltimore that he would've become the ace he is today.

My understanding is that this is actually wrong ... in fact, there is a guarantee he would not have become an ace in an Oriole uniform.

It's not just because Chris Bosio is demonstrably a great pitching coach, but also because Baltimore (like a number of other clubs I believe), as an organization, will simply not allow pitchers to throw like Jake does - which is to say, with a "crossfire" sort of motion. The actively steered him away from his natural throwing motion, which is the biggest factor why he might have had flashes of brilliance but never anything one could say was sustained.

Why they're not bringing that part up, I do not know.
