The Bible advocates some pretty horrible shit.

Yes, Id like to get into it. One is way less dangerous. (and that is from a critic of Christianity)

If we were only talking about the Koran saying these things (like the Bible says horrible things) then you'd have a point. We're talking about actions here.

If stories of Christians hanging gays, stoning divorced people and executing non Christians (for being non Christian) then we'll have to address them too.

So you agree that it's the people, not the religion itself, that is evil.

A majority of Christians have "grown up" and realized not to take everything in the Bible literally.

Islam hasn't gotten to that point. At least not outside the Middle East.

That is a huge and deadly problem right now. So you can see why comparisons to the religions that have grown up are really irrelevant.

Unless the point is, give them a few centuries to stop killing people.

It's absolutely a problem.

I wasn't trying to compare religions. I was saying the religion isn't evil. The people using religion as an excuse to justify their actions are evil.

Then they ought to catch the fuck up. We don't have 700 years for them to figure out that you can't subjugate women and defenestrate gay people.

I'm amused my chas indicating that he was reserving the fact that he was saving the info on that author being a gay liberal so he could use that in his swerve later...I'm thinking Vince Russo is booking for him

This is something that has always bugged me. If you don't take all the teachings literal, then why call yourself a Catholic or Christian? Why not just be a guy or girl who believes in God and an afterlife? When you still claim to be part of a religion when you really don't believe in the stuff, you are giving more credibility to the religion and the insane brainwashed people who actually do take all that stuff literally.

But see, what bugs me is when people say "I'm not religious, I'm just spiritual." You shouldn't need a purity test to identify as part of a group. There's room for liberal Congregationalists and tongue-speaking snake handlers to identify as Christians.

I couldn't tell you alot about Theistic Satanism except that they really do believe that Satan is a real thing. There are so many organizations that it's impossible to keep track unless you give a shit. Some are peaceful, some aren't. It's all very dumb to me.

Laveyan Satanism is basically atheism with the Satanic imagery and their own set of guidelines. They believe in finding strength from within and taking responsibility for your own actions. They preach minding your own business and never harming another person unless they provoke you repeatedly after you already asked them to stop. If you ever lay a hand on a child or force yourself on a woman you are immediately booted from the Church. Their teachings are respectable but the whole thing is still too silly and dumb for me. Some of them are posers too as I've known a handful of Laveyan Satanists and only a couple of them actually practiced what they preach.

Laveyan Satanists roll their eyes at Theistic Satanists while Theistic Satanists think Laveyan Satanists are pussies.

I don't know. Elmhurst certainly goes green on St. Patrick's Day, South Holland still has laws on the books that follow the Dutch Reformed practices, Elmwood Park doesn't exactly embrace diversity (tho in fairness, neither does Maywood  ), Bridgeview may as well be Jordan & well Kenilworth, well...you know

They are all American though and accept Western values for the most part. In the city you have neighborhoods where people are of the same background and have some traditions they keep but most accept our laws and by the 2nd or 3rd generation are Americanized for lack of a better word even if they keep mostly to their neighborhood. All the people I know aren't really that different from me no matter what their background except for the Jehovah's witnesses and Middle Easterners. And it's not a bad thing necessarily (unless they do not follow the laws) but I think it makes things hard on their kids. I think most people that come here try to assimilate.

Second generation moves to the suburbs. The first generation immigrates to the city. Maybe if they do semi well they move to one of those type of suburbs IMU considers Valhalla.

I think trying to assimilate was the goal of people in the early 1900s as you could live in an ethnic ghetto your entire life back. Now, it's not a matter of trying. No one but the most demented are going to choose lack of choice and options over more choice and options.

It's hard to stop the American born children from becoming assimilated. Just this past weekend I was in St. Helena, CA and an Indian wedding party came into the bar I was at. An Indian girl about 25 sat down between me and three bros from Boston. The bros immediately began chatting her up. They started asking her trivia question. They asked which state capital is the only one without a McDonald's. I knew because I know a lot of shit. So I leaned over and told her, "It's Montpelier." The bros were impressed with her but she was impressed with me. I further surprised her by knowing her dress was called a salwar kameez. Suddenly she wasn't so interested in the bros and began focusing on this old man. She bought me a shot of Bourbon. But then an Indian dude from her party came over and started chiding her about hanging out with white boys. I'm sure he would love to marry her and both their parents would love that too. But no matter how you dress her for weddings she's an American girl and she's gonna do what she wants to do.

I believe this is the way it has always gone according to people who study this.

1st generation: Very little assimilation. May never even learn English.
2nd generation: Still speak native language but they have other friends who help with the assimilation.
3rd generation: Pretty much fully assimilated. The only real connection is enough to keep the grandparents happy.

The issue is at least now that some groups, not just Muslims, do much more to be isolationist so it takes longer.

Ultimately though, as good dolphin said, the kids realize that being isolationist sucks and they break through. It may take an extra generation though.

Awfully convenient of you to leave out the part where he was arrested for his behavior.
