That's all great, but that doesn't fit anything that this is about.

that's exactly right. you ever met a woman who wants to shut her trap and be isolated for 48 hours? no. neither have I.

Yeah let is the wrong word. More like how comfortable are you guys with it.

I'm not going anywhere. I'm a homebody. I create order in my life by cooking, cleaning, sometimes painting, working out, and stuff like that.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Wrigley Field tour lasts longer than 5 minutes.

Seriously, I'm attached to my wife and actually miss her if she leaves for anything that lasts over a few hours. She has gone on vacations with her sister & mom but not too often.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that while reading the first page of this thread.

I can't imagine wanting to drive really anywhere. I'm either flying somewhere where everything is a walk/cab ride away, or simply doing something downtown-ish. I don't particularly care for long distance driving and there's really nothing in the fly over country I actually want to see.

That having been said, if everything is fine at home & you need a getaway, I'd probably be fine with it. You seem to have a fairly sedate life, despite your admitted increasing crawling up the walls as you do as a stay at home parent. I'd expect that you'd need a break every so often.

It'd have to be pretty weird (as a spouse) to initially hear about it, but I think that would pass fairly quickly.

Spent a total of 22 hours behind the wheel this past long weekend, very few things in my life are worth that kind of driving

In route to taking my son off to school last month, we passed through Bloomington/Normal & I couldn't help but wonder, damn I almost wish he was going to school here (& taking 3 hours off this drive each way)

Not for a man, but a woman alone is a different story.

You don't think women travel for business alone every day in this country?

True. I'm just picturing Spaulding driving to the badlands or Yellowstone n camping for a nite or two...I guess it depends on where you are going... A lot of weird shit happens in rural areas on deserted stretches of road ...car breaks down, no cell signal etc.

Ha camping?! You don't know me at all then. Laugh out loud, camping!

If I went on one it'd be somewhere historic, northeast coast, a food festival, yoga retreat, a volunteer vacation or something like that.

i wouldn't recommend it.

a road trip can be a grueling endeavor depending on the distance.

driving by myself 8.5 hours to toronto a couple of years ago wasn't bad. but then you had to drive back. that sucked.

the peace is nice for a while but you can get that when your good-for-nothing companions fall asleep while you drive through canadian farmland on your way to montreal.

road trips are fun when you have a good group together that will have no issue shooting the shit for however long the distance is.
