Reminds me of Sutcliffe in 1984. How'd that turn out anyway?

The dominating performances are impressive obviously. But it is his consistency that is probably most impressive to me. Sale has had many great outings this year and more strikeouts than anyone in Baseball if I am not mistaken. But he also has a bunch of games where he was just bad. I think Jake has just 3 starts all season that were not considered quality starts. With an ERA now 1.88 .......this guy is historically good this season.

Greatest season I've ever seen, he should edge out Greinke for CY.

Tough question is..Do ya let him keep going every 5th game or skip him once or twice the last 2 weeks.

As a Sox fan have to give respect. Hood is on now running some of his stats since the break. Only the immortals have a sub 1 era since the break like this. And it is even better they got him off the heap.

He has pitched every 5th day all season, I don't change a thing. He has shown no signs of wearing down. If anything, I might just limit his pitch counts a bit in his last couple starts . if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

His whole year has obviously been great, but his second half has to go down as one of the all-time greats.

Forget ERA. How many total runs has the dude given up in the second half?

12 total runs over 13 starts and 94.1 innings.

Ridiculous. Hammel has come close to that in an inning

Priors 2nd half in 03 was amazing 9-1 14 runs in 10 starts. Wouldn't have believed another Cub pitcher would eclipse it.

Sutcliffe's 84 season has to be in the team photo.

Perhaps differently if the league hadn't penalized the Cubs for not having lights by giving the team with the lesser record home field advantage.

Myth. (That I believed for years)

Had nothing to do with lack of lights

It was an alternate between East and West thing for NLCS

But if they had made WS they were going to lose Game 1 because of lights

Really? I'll be darned; true enough.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_Chicago_Cubs_season#NLCS

A myth is that the Cubs were deprived of home-field advantage for the 1984 National League Championship Series (NLCS) because they could not host night games.

However, from 1969–1984, the LCS were five-game series played in a 2-3 format. The NL West and AL East champs hosted the first two games in odd years and the NL East and the AL West hosted the first two games in even years. Thus, no changes were made to the NLCS schedule due to Wrigley Field's lack of lights.

It
is true that Major League Baseball announced in August 1984 that if the Cubs were to make the World Series, the first game would be moved to the American League park, to maximize the television revenues from night games. In 1984, the series was to be a seven-game series in a 2-3-2 format with the NL hosting the first two and last two games.

Want to get even sicker?

Arrieta's last 7 starts:

0.34 ERA, 52.1 IP, 24 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 55 K, 0.57 WHIP

I think you have to sell high. He'll be in his 30's when we are competing. I think we would be better off with younger blood when you consider how much he will cost if he continues playing at this level.

W/L doesn't matter for a pitcher.

but, if you must, congratulations in breathing the rarified air with Jon Lieber

Classic dolphin.

Hey dolphin, you think trading Arrieta & Strop keeps Dan Duquette up at night?

Orioles have made nothing but bad trades to the Cubs over the past decade. You would think they would learn their lesson

Smartest thing you've ever said.

But team record does matter and the Cubs are 23-8 in games that Arrieta starts.
