I am of the opinion that few kids want to work to be good at something unless it's travel baseball or volleyball. Guitar is hard. Drums are hard. Whereas, Rock Band is fun! Guitar Hero is fun!

Shit, even recording is EASIER and WAY cheaper than it used to be 17 years ago (my first album that you've never heard). We had to book studio time, pay for the Reels or ADATs or DATs. 4 guys pooled together $4,500 to record and duplicate 1,000 c.d.'s and then try to sell them to recoup our money. We didn't ever recoup our money, but it was fun as hell trying to do so. And it was fucking work.

But American music overall is still kinda bad right now. We are in a serious lull. Even with the established acts. I would guess that even the music listening nerds like Bagels, Spanky, Doucebag, Nas, and RPB (to name a few) would agree.
As an example of the heavier music I prefer: The new Hell Yeah album just came out (Chad Gray of Mudvayne, Vinnie Paul of Pantera) and it's streaming for free. It's absolute recycled drivel. Just crap...not even a dessicated shell of their former and more better bands.

There are very few "new" bands that I really enjoy and probably only one of them you may have heard of. But, really...there's been like 5 bands in as many years (or more) that I have started following. That's pretty damn sad.

And while it RARELY happens, I get super excited when I here a "poorly played out of time beginner version" of smoke on the water. It makes me happier than a plate of tacos, a bohemia, iced mug, and a patron shot...

There is no "not knowing" these days. If a band is really that great, they're going to be heard at some point. The problem is that the guitar is kinda dead...and chicks dig EDM.

Yeah, I think that's both a blessing and a curse. The ease and quality of home recording and the availability of social media allows anyone with an idea to create a good product and get it out there. And that's great. But the effort that making a record and distributing it used to require meant you had to be really dedicated. We liked to act like we were just fucking around, but we took our shit pretty seriously.

Silly.

Hip Hop took over as the new rock n roll a long time ago. That is why you dont find what you seek

"Hip hop" is just as dead.

Incorrect.

Kendrick, Cole, and KRIT have rescued it from Young Money and hip hop doesnt go backward. Its one of those genres where it just gets better (see any rap pre 1987 for proof)

Just my opinion. I found this post while fucking around on the search function

Lots of rumors swirling about this. Supposedly Slash and Axl have reconciled

Quote:
A new report has pointed out that classic Guns N' Roses lineup is gearing up to hit the road for a $100 million global trek in the near future.

According to the Mirror, the band's classic lineup is "in talks" about returning to the stage, with promoters estimating that the trek could earn the boys $100 million.

This time around, the news came from Slash's friend John Murdy, a boss at Universal Studios theme park, who stated:

"I know that Slash and Axl talking again is a really good sign. I am going to let them figure that out. Rock stars are the coolest, nicest people. Slash is an icon and one of the 10 best guitar players of all time."

Slash said about the whole matter: "There's no animosity. Over time we all just got sick and tired of the black cloud. The biggest thing that happens when you have a break-up that is less than harmonious is you build up a bad energy because of the distance. The bad feelings get exaggerated."

Discussing the possible tour, LA marketing expert Alex Villa commented: "Demand for tickets and interest in the USA alone would earn the group tens of millions of dollars. A world tour, reissued CDs and new material rockets that figure easily. Guns N' Roses were a powerhouse in rock in the nineties and a reunion will be a huge deal.

"The band only need to do a year on the road and would never have to worry about money again in their lives."

I'd go if tickets were $25 at the Aragon.
Depending on what day of the week it was, and if I had a conflict.
Maybe.

NO WAY I'm paying big $ to see these schlubs at a big arena for big $$$.

Yeah this is absolutely happening it appears. I wonder how insane these ticket prices will be. While I agree with Someguy's statement that the time has past, I still see people shelling out huge $$$$ to see the Stones. This would be the top grossing concert of the year for sure and could be OK. It will not be great by any means (unless they just play Appetite from start to finish and walk off the stage)

When they say Original they are not including Izzy or Adler right? I am pretty sure Adler can't play anymore so I understand that.

I really liked Guns N Roses and still have all the albums through Use Your Illusion 1&2 but isn't Axl's voice shot?

It's a shame Panther isn't around to post about this. :D

I have no interest in this. Axl is finished, and this is happening about 10+ years too late to be anything special. These nostalgia reunions are always garbage.

I saw some concert of theirs from a year or two ago with replacements and it was fine. Dated but Axl sounded good enough to me. I just do not know where to place the over/under on when the wheels fall of and the rest of the tour is cancelled.

Izzy played on the O2 gig they filmed for Paladia. I don't see Adler doing it though. Sorum has still been playing with Duff and Slash.

1. I believe Axl is as insane as reported
2. I think Slash is an amazing guitarist and one of the few that has his own unique sound and style. I also think he's bit nuts....but not in league of Axl
3. EVENTUALLY...this will happen. There's simply too much money to be made.

I saw GnR Spring '93 in Iowa city. Great show. I feel fortunate in that it started on time and almost completed the full set list.

since I've seen them when relevant, I'll approach this as I did the Motley Crue tour....no thanks.

Everything I have read about it says it will be the original 5.

I saw them in 1988 at the Coronado Theatre in Rockford just as they were about to blow up. Definitely less than $25. Phenomenal show.

That's pretty awesome. I've seen the MTV footage live from the Ritz around that time...pretty tight.

Yeah Sorum has became a de facto original member. I truly don't think Adler can play anymore. He really screwed himself up. I'm not sure if he is clean still or not but the damage he did I don't think he can make a tour.

Izzy is a must. Izzy is more important than Duff imho.

I saw the UYI tour opener at Alpine Valley.
It was awesome.
Adler might be fucked, but yes, he CAN still play.
And Duff is way cooler than Izzy.
I remember running into Gilby Clarke at a Ralphs in LA.....total sweetheart....
he was just there to get some ice cream for his wife.
I hope This reunion happens.....I'd pay to see it.....
Axl might wanna see and ENT doctor first, though.....

I know a dude who lived in Adlers building and was friends with him. He was in some horrible shape. That video was awesome though. Shit. Duff is cooler but izzy was an awesome writer. Gilby is a fine player

I have also read that Adler and Sorum might share the drums during a reunion.

Duff and Izzy were the backbone of the band.
