I just think it hit Spiegel that taking on the Score's King isn't worth it because it would likely mean he loses his job. Mitch and Zim made their choice a long time ago. They got in bed with Bernstein and turned the station over to Bernstein. They sold their souls.

So they're certainly not gonna let one of their own attack Bernstein. Spiegel either realized this on his own or Mitch walked in during a commercial break and told him so. Spiegel fell back in line and Bernstein charges on.
