Cards and Pirates tie, need to play a 1 gamer to see who wins the division and they both throw their aces....loser plays the Cubs....

IT COULD HAPPEN!

That'd be awesome.

Hope it does happen.

Wow, that could actually happen, although it's unlikely with that magic number down to 5 with 7 games to go.

That would be quite the dis-advantage to the team that loses that game in such a scenario.

Biggie, I've been taunting the Redbird fans at work with exactly the scenario you described for about a week now.

The day after Jake got win #20, they were in my space nervously counting the schedule to see what days he could possibly be pitching again.

I could see the concern on their faces really start showing yesterday.

It really could happen and it would be terrific.

I would hope the pirates would win. Otherwise you still have to face Liriano after Cole pitches the tie breaker. If they face the Cardinals the match-up is more favorable. Especially with Martinez now out for the season.

The Cards would probably throw the game against the Bucs just so their ace could face the Cubs.

Not likely to happen. St. Louis has Wacha and Lynn going against the backend of the Pirates rotation. Doubt that the Pirates can sweep, which they would most likely need to do. Pirates will also likely lose today to Arrieta.

so people are coming over to my point of view. It is a possibility, the Cards are not as good as people think they are. But the Pirates have some heavy lifting to do...

That line of thinking has been out there for at least the last month, or more.

I would take ST Louis in a one game in a second..

And Pitt has been looking at Liriano starting the one game v The Cub as well. That might happen even if Cole is around.

Thats why that game against Cole was important. Even they knocked him around better and Liriano had the Sat outing like he did. I would suspect Liriano would be the guy,

I disagree. While Liriano has a good history against the Cubs, I think Cole gets the nod. He's their ace and looked very good against the Cubs on Friday as well. A manager is usually reluctant to bypass the #1 and risk having his ace pissed he didn't get the ball in such a big game and give fans and writers ammunition should things go wrong.

I give Bigfan a lot of credit for coming up with this scenario. It didn't occur to me but it would be something if it played out like that.
