https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Hendry

Hendry was the only general manager in Cubs history to oversee three postseason clubs (2003, 2007, 2008) and was the first Cubs general manager to lead the franchise to consecutive postseason berths since the 1930s. Under his tenure, the Cubs were 749-748. He was the third longest serving general manager in the history of the club.

Hendry's Cubs averaged a playoff appearance once every 3 years.

Theo is on a once every 4 year pace

Cubs might have made the playoffs in year one of Theo BUT he chose to lose on purpose.

Sorry,I just can't embrace that mentality. He could have done both (winning & rebuild). The guys on here are acting like 3 years of losing is fine. It doesn't matter your age,why would you want to except that?

This may be the single dumbest thread ever concocted. Theo and Jed rebuilt a team, losing being part of the equation for the first 3 years, as they traded away players to restock the farm system and build through the draft. They are only now, for the first time, trying to win. The team is very likely to have a great run for years to come, of post-season appearances and that 1 appearance in 4 years crap will change very dramatically. The fun is just beginning.

Concoct your ass! 3 years of planned losing does not sit well with a lot of Cub fans.

Because the kind of guys you get at the top of a draft are much better than later in the draft. You don't get a Kris Bryant if you are drafting at 15.

Are you sure you follow baseball? It might be the only sport where you CAN find a guy lower in the draft.

I'm sure a lot of students would rather skip some classes they needed to take to fulfill their requirements for graduation. But they need to take the time and put in the work, before moving on and benefitting from the fact they graduated. Similar here, as Theo and Jed had to go through the process of restocking the minor leagues through the draft and trades. then those players had to be developed. It took some time and not all the crucial pieces are yet at the major league level. but enough are already, so they were able to make the post-season already. A year earlier than I had expected quite frankly. But it's high times for Cub fans now and should remain so for many years. Let go of the 3 years of rebuilding (and losing) and embrace the outstanding execution of the plan.

Here ya go Jimmy...another feather in the cap of "Old Buddy hendry"

Was one one of the first that broke the unspoken slotting rule of the draft, when he took Shark with his 2nd pick and paid him like a 1st rounder to keep him from playing football or anyone else drafting him. Which is now Addy Russel and McKinney.

So, another solid move for him to offset the Jacque Jones and STEAK DINNER BOOM RF!

Serious question Jimmy. Are you this stupid or is this an act? They just clinched a playoff berth and you are concerned how they performed 2 seasons ago? This is so fucking stupid that I don't have the proper insults to convey my disdain for you. YOU are everything wrong with sports fans. I truly feel sorry for you.

I said to show me anyone better than Bryant that was drafted after him in his draft class. You can't, and instead come up with some stupid article about guys drafted later in OTHER draft classes. Bryant is the Rookie of the year, an All-Star in his rookie year and a guy who may well wind up an MVP and Hall of Famer in the future. Nobody drafted after Bryant in his class will ever be as accomplished and they only got him because they had a terrible record that allowed them to draft him #2 overall. if they tried to win the previous season and added half-assed veteran players that allowed them to reach a level of mediocrity that apparently you would have been happy with, they could not have drafted him and instead would have gotten a lesser player.

Hank,
Yeah,I have a newsflash. The Ricketts have had 5 years of crap teams since they took over. Now I'm supposed to be giddy and celebrate the 2nd WC birth? You can dance in the streets with other "history ignoring" Cub fans. I choose to 'wait & see".

So you hate when they win and hate when they lose. They have one of the best records in baseball. Just happen to be in a crazy division. What the fuck are you waiting to see? They made the playoffs. They look to have a bright future. If you can't be a excited about that stop fucking watching you depressing sack of crap.
