2003- Aram & Lee

2015- Bryant & Rizzo

Are you Cub fans better off today than you were 12 years ago?

While the overall numbers are probably great, both of those guys had some terrible starts...I am talking .171 average starts for 2 months. Then heated up when it meant nothing.

They had some great years here, would never deny it, but they had some ral crap that didnt show in the stats because the final numbers looked good...huge pet peave of mine when someone likes the final numbers and they disregard the first 2 months and make hay when it means nothing.

But to answer your question, are better off with 2 players that will probably be better in the long run and cost controlled for the next 6 years....well, I will let you answer it, because it really isnt a worthy discussion.

But a great trade by Hendry for He Cant Hit and that overhyped 2nd Baseman, whatever his name was....probably the highlight of the Hendry era.

Right. Rizzo and Bryant should hope to have the careers those two did.

Take it easy on jimmy. He is remembering the 2004 "Team With No Weaknesses".

Jimmy, will you be happy if they win a world series, or will the 3 years of losing forever taint such an accomplishment?

And did the previous 35 years of losing and sucking all the money out by the Tribune company with no intentions of a world series effect you in the same way?

Being old and having seen good/bad Cub teams in the past doesn't make me any better than you younger Cub fans. What continues to anger me is what the hell you guys thought was going on these past 3 years when the rest of the National League beat the hell out of your favorite team. That logic is something I can't comprehend.

I've seen them lose most of my life. At least this had a some sort of goal at the end.

What? Lee was very good for the Cubs. So was Aramis.

Certainly not in 2003. I mean, aram was sure, but wasn't Simon and karros playing 1st in 03? I seem to remember Karros with some video camera scam that was going on...

I'm not going to pick on jimmy for that. Senility is no joke. He meant 2004-2010... that was a solid tandem for those years.

That being said, I'm extremely comfortable with Rizzo and Bryant.

Good. I'm glad.

But now compare the strength of the entire Chicago Cubs organization in 2015 versus 2004.

I'm much more comfortable with 2015. The Cubs are a 94-95 win team this season, I think. And they still have the assets to sign yet another top tier free agent pitcher, and/or trade to solidify the outfield / bullpen. And after that...they still have prospects that can fill in and help as needed / traded in future seasons for even more impact players. And I trust the amateur scouting to continue keeping the organization stocked.

I trusted Hendry only to sign 30 year old free agents and have half of them work out.

I see Bryant as a future MVP, perhaps more than 1. I see him having multiple years of 40 or more homers beginning as soon as next season, with 120 or more RBI in multiple seasons.Plus, Rizzo is a 30/ 100 guy himself and a great defensive player.Plus, Rizzo and Bryant are vastly superior base runners. Both can steal bases now and then and Bryant has beat out more infield singles this season than Ramirez and Lee did in their careers. Lee had 1 amazing season and a couple more that were good, but I never saw a guy hit more double play ground balls to the SS position. he killed more rallies than anyone.....EVER. Ramirez was very good. Underrated by many. But no doubt, I take Rizzo and Bryant

I will never forget how Lee went out. He pissed me off so much. I know he was a good player but he was the poster boy for the dead ass attitude that plagued them. I loved when Z wanted to kick his ass in the dugout for it.

Aramis was good but very streaky.

I will always take a young combo of players who are striving to win a championship...and get paid over a combination of already paid vets that are just cashing checks and going through the motions(LEE).

Steve putting Bryant in the Willie mays category. What a hoot.
