I know Melky had an up & down season but he has better stats than anybody in the Cubs OF.

Whether the feeling is irrational or not, I don't feel desperate anymore. I feel like this is house money. I didn't expect the playoffs this year. I feel like this is the beginning of something different.

You should get season tickets, some bacon on a stick and a Buerhle Shersey

Jimmy is making Steve look rational right now. Think about that. This is truly bizzaro world.

If Melky played on the Cubs,he would be very popular right now:

AVG HR RBI OBP
.275 12 76 .317

Good for you. I hope the Cubs go all the way. I just have been down this road a few times now.

And what does shitting on the situation do for you. So you can say "told you so!!!!". You are ruining your moment. The Cubs don't make the playoffs often. I would rather savor the feeling, maybe it all falls apart next year...

Yes the moment should be celebrated. We suffered through 3 bad seasons, watching guys like Dempster, Feldman Samadzjia, and Hammel get traded at the deadlines for prospects and watching the team lose 90 or more games. but now, when the draft choices have resulted in outstanding young players and those trades have turned into contributing players, including a 20 game winning pitcher who may win the Cy Young award, it's cause for celebration. but make no mistake, the team will ad another top of the rotation starter this winter and the team will be even better.

I think the chance for failure is much higher in the FA market chasing top of the line SP than a hitter.
I'd rather see the Cubs sign maybe 3 middle rotation guys and see how that plays out.

But he didn't hit the first 2 1/2 months of the season. By then the Sox were out of true contention. LaRoche has been more consistent as he has continued not to hit. The Sox are functioning like a small market team, signing 2nd tier free agents and hoping they do well. The Cubs under Theo, have built an organization that will have long term success. Call me kooky, but I prefer their plan.

Yeah,I know he sucked in the early part of the season. It's baseball, right now look at Schwarber's BA.
Bryant had his downtime too earlier in the year.Still, I would have been happy if Melky was signed by the Cubs.

That is just another dumb thought. In the playoffs you only pitch 3-4 starters. having a dominant starter that can help win the most important games is more valuable than having a few guys capable of winning just around half their games and pitching a lot of innings. The priority is to get another guy capable of winning those most important games, to go along with Arrieta and Lester.

Dumb thought? To get to the playoffs you need starting pitching DEPTH. The Cubs have been really lucky they had no injuries this season in the SP or they would not have made it this far. The Cubs right now have 1 fantastic SP,one very good SP and hold your breath after that. In a 7 game series, that might hurt.

Yet another bad idea. There is nowhere to play him if they did acquire him. Schwarber has been hitting better of late and he will probably be the left fielder next year, as he is not ready to catch at this point, if he ever will be. Coghlan is the 4th outfielder with Soler in RF. CF is the only opening and Melky is not a guy I would want in CF for me. Fowler may well leave as I don't see the Cubs offering him the kind of long term deal he will seek, with Albert Almora coming up in the next year most likely. No thanks on Melky. Players at his age tend to trend downward and this is a team on the upswing.

World Series teams usually have a guy like him though, a Victorino, a Gomes, etc. that you don't really think about.

How can there be nowhere to play him when he's arguably bettter than every Cub outfielder unless you consider Bryant an outfielder.

Jimmy is exactly like Randy Quaid in Major League 2.

Except it's not funny.

It's like, evidence of senility, or major head trauma or something.

That's no cheap shot. That is a legitimate well thought out shot that is going to stand.

i have never seen anyone else pissed that their team lost in the PAST instead of enjoying the spoils of those seasons in the form of post season play.

It's just his way of marketing Lakemoor Fest. It took me a long time to figure that out.

After 20000 posts on here,I can handle mean. It's like it's easier to take potshots at me than ask themselves what's wrong with this picture. Take a look at the Pirates and Royals. How many years of suckiness did their fanbase endure before they finally became "good"?

Bottom Line: NEVER lose on purpose.

What is embarrassing is the Cub fans who accept planned losing.

Why are you still bitching about this? The Cubs are doing great this year. Enjoy it and stop looking backwards.

That's just like your opinion man.

The Cubs could not be where they are right now...with the strength they have going forward...if they did not tank those years. They simply would not have the amount of skilled, controllable assets they current have. It is a fact. Sure, they could have gone the terrible Hendry route and sign overpriced free agents year after year and hope to make the playoffs here and there...but those teams were not set for sustainable success. Hendry had 3 terrible years during his tenure...more than 3. Theo got those 3 out of the way at the beginning of his tenure. They are in the past.

The Pirates were bad for something like 27 years and the Royals were bad for at least 20? THe cubs were terrible for 5 years. What is your point?

Are you trying to say that we should not enjoy success this year because they were not successful last year? That's what I'm getting from this.

There was one season under Hendry where the Cubs were pretty close to the playoffs (forgot the year),but Dusty's boys choked in the last few weeks. So far,it looks like Hendry's way is better...so far. I'm hoping this years Cubs prove me wrong but:

Hendry's 3 PO appearances out of 9 seasons=.333
Theo's 1 PO appearance out of 4 seasons=.250

Dat's a fact,jack.

Lets see where THeo is after 9 seasons and maybe we can talk about it.
2004 is the season where they blew it at the end.
And... let's not forget that in 2 of those 3 playoff appearances they didn't win a single damn game.

Sure. And I'm discounting it as it is unimportant since they've not nearly had the same amount of seasons. Their strategies are so far different that you simply cannot compare their tenures until they are more similar in length. Though Theo will only need six or seven seasons to match the playoff appearances. And with World Series titles being more weighted than playoff appearances...

2004 was the year you're referencing.
