Arrieta has a 0.86 ERA since the All-Star Break, which would be the lowest ERA after the break in major league history.

Whoa.

Hi Gerrit, this is Jessica ...

What ... did she think he wouldn't know it wasn't one-nut from the voice alone?

I've seen a lot of baseball in my years. However, I haven't seen anything like what I've seen from Arrietta in the last three months. He's been amazing.

Jenkins had an awesome stretch from the middle 60's to the early 70's that has been unmatched. Sutcliffe was awfully good after coming over in 84 and Prior was pretty dominant in 2003, but I agree that Arrieta is having the best single season I have witnessed from a Cubs starter as well.

Arrieta is perfect through 5 innings. If he finishes the game that way, is the Cy Young his? I have to think so, without question.

This is pretty dang special. The one problem I can see with tonight's performance is if Arrieta keeps this up, I cannot see Maddon taking him out. Thus, the pitch count going over where he might have otherwise limited it.

Fuck pitch counts at this point of the season. He'll be fine.

Do you get the feeling that Arrieta likes the bright lights of national broadcasts? Wasn't the Dodger game also an ESPN game?

With the game still being close, I am interested to see how long Maddon leaves him in the game. 84 pitches so far through 7.

The only Cub that compares is Les Lancaster and he was just a reliever.

I don't remember any Cub starter dominating like this.

Arrieta's WHIP doubled from that inning.

According to that stat I posted up thread, no one has ever seen anything like it ever .

He's only got 84 pitches through 7. He should finish what he started.

Prior went 10-1 down the stretch in 2003 but even that wasn't this good.

In 1989: set a Chicago Cubs record for a reliever by hurling 30.2 consecutive scoreless innings
