So where are the pitchers Hendry drafted?

Shark was great because Theo traded him for Russell. Chris Archer, who was traded by Hendry in another "win now" move. Not sure who else. That's 2 guys in 8 years. Has a Angelo vibe to it, doesn't it?

Wasn't Prior,Wood and Zambrano picked under Hendry? (I don't feel like looking it up)

Rich Hill, the guys Hendry traded to the Marlins for DLee I think were ML viable pitchers, too.

Are you sure?

He had something to do with it maybe not as GM,his input was there.

Hendry was promoted to GM on July 5, 2002 by former Cubs President/CEO Andy MacPhail. He worked for the Cubs from 1995 to 2011. Prior to his promotion to GM, he was named Assistant GM/Player Personnel Director on October 12, 2001, and previously the Director of Player Development, in charge of both Scouting and Minor League Operations.

Ok well if your gonna give him credit for his time before he was GM. But that's not what we're talking about.

Anyway, Im a Hendry fan. He was a good GM for the Cubs.

This was the trade I was thinking of. No Cy Youngs in that group but serviceable talents.

DALLAS -- The Florida Marlins likely finished their salary
purge on Wednesday, sending center fielder Juan Pierre to the
Chicago Cubs for right-hander Sergio Mitre and Double-A pitchers Ricky Nolasco and Renyel Pinto.

Jimmy, he traded any decent (or great, in Donaldson and Archer's case) prospect. So not only did he not win, he almost guaranteed failure in the future.

Hendry's way of building a "winner" left the team old, overpaid and with a horseshit farm system. No thanks.

Same plan Phil Emery used.

Essay, passive-aggressive soliloquy, ball-busting and finger-pointing. Oh, and stream-of-consciousness. As for the question, I have no answers today...

Theo's plan seems like there is no viable starting pitching in the farm system after 4 seasons. Somebody like IMU might know differently, but I haven't read much about help from the minors for SP.

The Cubs are stacked with 18-20 year old arms. The Cubs' last two drafts were heavy on high school pitching after the first couple of rounds. The fact that they were able to pay under slot value on several higher picks allowed to them to pay overslot money to high school pitchers in order to convince them to sign with the Cubs and not go to college. These 3rd-6th round guys weren't viewed as 3rd-6th round guys...teams had them higher on the board but signability scared teams away. The Cubs didn't have to worry about signability as much because of the extra $$ they could use to sign guys.

So yeah...besides Johnson, Edwards and Underwood there isn't a ton of pitching that you've heard of. But that doesn't mean it isn't there. The Cubs farm system is still so deep there are a ton of names.

But Stinnett, Cease, Hudson, Steele, Tseng and Sands are names you'll be hearing over the next few years. They don't have much of a chance to show up on the major league team until 2018 I'd think...and some of those guys could easily disappear. But if even two of them become big time prospects...that can help solve future starting pitching issues.

After those guys...there are some other dudes like Hudson, Zastryzny, Torrez, Black, Clifton... certainly not sure things...but sometimes pitching depth comes from surprising places. CJ Edwards was a 48th round guy, for example.
