Yet, you said that here just a few minutes ago.

Have you met leash? He absolutely would.

 That was the second part of the rebuttal.

What if the guy looked like Drago ?

There's an equation for this. The variable is how many drinks in we are.

That's another thing I want to address: There is very little space to hide an incompetent attorney in a law firm. If shakes wasn't good at what he did, the firm would no longer exist. Even further, nobody here knows whether he took a firm and expanded it or developed a different client base. He may very well be far superior to his father and yet he's being derided as if his presence is a badge of dishonor. Every success story begins with a lucky break in whatever form it may appear. The rest of the story is what a person does with that break.

I've worked at a huge multi national firm in my past. That stuff is for the birds.

I'm pretty sure shakes would be practicing law somewhere even if his father's firm never existed

I can't knock someone because their family was successful and they may have benefitted from it. If we are honest we all hope we can provide a similar option for our kids.

I believe what happens is the guy that started on 3rd looks down ar the guy standing in the parking lot and questions why he didn't score. Some people then call that guy out for being an idiot.

People act like this is passing down some tradesman business on to a son. The lawyer's apprenticeship is 3-4 years of school with the most miserable and psychotic type A personalities you would care to meet followed by 7+ years of thankless drudgery. There are better ways to make easy money.

I think everyone can easily make their profession sound miserable and hard. Probably even tradesmen.

of course, but does a tradesmen have to put in that many years? Even discounting the years of being an associate, you have to endure 4 pretty solid academic years of college and at least 3 years of law school to be a lawyer. You also must pass a difficult competency test.

In short, this isn't an industry where a ne'er do well son can step into a situation after spending 4 brotastic years at a warm weather school.

While what Good Dolphin said is technically true, there are many, many idiots practicing law. Some of them even succeed at it.

It is not exactly like becoming a N.A.S.A. rocket scientist.

I'm not saying it isn't difficult. I imagine if little dolphins decide to do it your decades of experience will be invaluable. There is nothing wrong with that in my world.

In all honesty and with no connotation, I'm curious why you think that. I probably review several hundred resumes a month, many of them lawyers, and many of the jobs a clear step down from out in-house attorney positions. We hire in-house attorneys, too, and many of those roles aren't even attempted by unemployed attorneys. Curious to see why you think an attorney such as shakes would find work so easily.

Once in awhile I appear in forcible detainer court. I have a tough time figuring out which ones are the lawyers and which ones are the deadbeats in that courtroom.

7 years? I'd say probably more to be what would equate to a "partner" for a trade.

Thing is that most have them have probably been doing it, if it's a family business, since they were 13 years-old so that by the time they are in their mid-20s, it usually isn't the skill-level that holds them back, it's the immaturity of getting their social life on rather than focusing on running a business.
