I got you in the "missed the point/concept" column.

I got the relevant point. When you're premise is "When is losing acceptable" I pretty much stop trying to convince you that you're just rationalizing at that point.

Once again... the premise is the opposite of "losing is acceptable". What the hell is wrong with you.
The point is that LOSING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

No, not ONCE AGAIN, because regardless of your intentions, what you are positing is that losing is actually acceptable. There's a lot of idiot fans out there. Just enjoy the ride man.

Without getting into a discussion of irony; the title of your thread is literally "Would it be good for the Cubs to lose the play in game?"

That is correct. What's your point? I know you don't understand what I'm saying. Can we just leave it at that.

I want them to win it all. My sports fandom will be complete with a Cubs WS championship

But if they lose, I hope it's a true ass-kicking, and not a "we were robbed" deal.

The model for me would be the 1984 Bears NFC championship loss at SF. Appeared to galvanize the core of the 1985 team.

I'm with Darkside. It would be downright hilarious if they lose the play-in game. Obviously a 3-1 heartbreaker on 10/7/15 would lead to an Emanski-like back-to-back-to-back (again) World Series titles. Completely rational.

Unrelated, have you checked your CO detector lately, Darkside?

I agree.

It's good to know we'll all be able to celebrate when the Cubs lose.

No, because this may end up being the best Cubs team of all of them.

I agree with Rick that this might be one of the greatest teams of all time and that you go for it.

How did the White Sox fare after they employed this strategy in 1919?

Maybe losing in a play in with this young team and getting a sniff of the buffet table makes them want to come roaring back wanting to eat the whole damn thing?

I know. It's kind of a dumb idea but does it make any sense?

no.

i know arrieta has been pretty good for 1.75 years not but there's no guarantee his arm doesn't fall off next year. without him the cubs aren't anything special

The cubs will never see a second half like this out of Arrieta again. If the giants won a series on the arm of Baumgartner, there is nothing preventing the Cubs from doing it with Jake.

hyperbole aside, it is a historic run

They are looking up at two teams in their own division even after a miracle year. Shouldn't that provide all the incentive necessary to "get better"?

Robbed? They wouldn't even be in the playoffs five years ago. They should be thankful.

Of the 3 teams in the NL Central, it is clearly the Cubs that have had a miracle year.

Come on....of course it would NOT be good in any way, shape, or form. You could extend out your premise/question to say...would it be good for them to lose in the divisional series? Would it be good for them to lose in the 7th game of the World Series? They will come back hungrier next season? Come on.

Short answer is NO!

Cubs could win the fucking WS if they get past the first game. Holy crap that would be painful to lose that game.

OOOHHH, we are going to catch the Cardinals next year with a big off season pitcher signing.

Welcome back Adam Wainwright.
