Jimmy what is your fascination with bad bench players?

There is one guy who is a big bat (Schwarber), one guy who is an awesome glove (Jackson) and you pick the journeyman guy who is bad at both.

And La Stella is clearly a weapon to come off the bench.

It will be the exact lineup from last night against Burnett

You talking about the bad bench player that just won a big game in late September when the rest of the lineup was sleep walking?

Its stil a terrible idea

And thay was the exact opposite of a big game. Almost completely meaningless

jimmy, were you pumped when Hendry brought Jody Gerut into the fold?

Yes,I admit I like the "Rocky" type players. Ask the White Sox fans if they are grateful for a Geoff Blum. It's the unheralded no-names throughout sports history that always seem to come up big.

I'm sorry, but I feel Denorfia has a better chance to get a key hit than Soler who has no plate discipline and has been a major disappointment to me this season.

Chris Denorfia made Major League Baseball history Monday night.

Denorfia sent the Cubs home winners with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning against the Royals, breaking a scoreless tie.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time a pinch-hitter ended a 1-0 extra-inning game with a homer.

It's also the first time since 1936 that the Cubs have had multiple 1-0 extra-inning victories in a season, and Denorfia had the walk off RBI in both (credit: CSN stat guru Chris Kamka):

Since you were so quick to play the "I was right!" card with Denorfia's one big hit...

How about Austin Jackson having like ten of them tonight?

3 hits, 2 doubles, 5 RBI.

AAA- pitching.

I will hold my AJax HOF vote at this point.

Well Denorfia hit his off of an actual AAA pitcher. Cingrani has been in the league for awhile.

10 > 3.

you are a stats guy. Here is Denorfia's lifetime stats against Pittsburgh pitchers:

BA: .352 OBP: .392 SLG:.535 OPS: .928

batting 500 against Cole.

give it up,you lose this one.

Yeah, while it was nice to see him contribute for a change, I have given up on the idea of Ajax taking over CF next year on a 1-2 year deal if Fowler walks.

Well, Denorfia wouldn't be facing every pitcher that ever put on a Pirates uniform. He'd be facing Cole. And I didn't look up career BvP but this year Denorfia is 0-1. And Cole hasn't been in the league long enough and Denorfia han't been in the Central long enough for there to be much of a sample size. And the first mistake in analyzing metrics is prematurely judging what statistics mean. So Denorfia may hit Cole at a .500 clip...how many PA? 2 for 4 with 2 singles? Color me unimpressed.

Denofria will be on the roster on the bench, let's just leave it at that

I think the bigger question is what kind of sideshow will Joe Maddon have in the locker room before the game to keep the guys loose. My guess is a stand up comic, or a demonstration from the Pittsburgh Fire Department

Feel free to baseballsavant.com up G Cole.

You will be able to break him down all you want to create your optimal lineup...

doesnt take into account Joe Maddon GUT feelings.

Should the focus of eveything now. 1 game.

Denorfia: 3 out of 6 against Cole with one double. For a 1 game playoff,I want him. His BA I posted is against CURRENT Pirate pitchers.

The CUBS have a whole geek department that thinks about this stuff all day and all night.

Funny how Jed and Theo gave them their own 'uniforms" , they have a modern look, trying to create their own TEAM thing. Assume in the new digs, they will have some secret wing of the building, or when everyone moves out of the current building, they will keep the whole building looking like the garage and really it is the THINKTANK

I don't think I start Kyle at PNC. He has not hit well at all the last six weeks once the league got a book on him.

Fowler
Coughlin
Bryant
Rizzo
Montero
Soler
Castro
Russell
Arrieta

Castro and Soler come out after 3 PA unless Jake has an uncharacteristically bad performance.

My prediction is 4-2 Cubs, with Lester getting the win in the 14th and pitching 3 innings of 2-hit ball.
