That's what I feel every handyman we ever hired is thinking about me when I bring them in to do something.

I've thought the same thing.
My first house had a Sears wall heater in an add on room. It didn't work and I didn't know jack squat about it. So I called Sears. A guy came out and fixed it. I think it was a $50 part, but it cost almost $100 just to get him there before he did anything. Total bill was about $300. The guy said "you think this is too much?" I said yes it is. He said (direct quote) "That's what you get when you have someone come do your work for you."
I haven't bought a thing from Sears since.
You have a shitty attitude. Yeah the part is $50. You think he is free labor? That his truck and gas and insurance doesn't cost anything? How about the fact that he had the knowledge to know which part to fix and how to fix it?
I hate it when people bitch at me when we charge $100 for what they think is a $40 part. Do you think that parts should be installed for free with no markup?
Had a customer this summer call for a no cooling call. Lawyer. Big place in a gated community. They've got 3 ac units in this place. Condenser fan motor is bad on the west main floor unit. I quote 445 for the motor. 68 for the Dispatch. OK this guy goes bananas. The motor is only 200 at grainger he screams at me. Mind you it's about 6pm on a Friday. I want to go fucking home man. He says fuck you I'll go buy the motor and put it in myself. Fine.
Monday I have to go back. He bought the motor at grainger but a couple things. He didn't put in the right capacitor. The new one needed 7.5 cap and he hooked up the old 5 cap which was testing around 4 as it was bad anyway. The cap is included automatically when I replace a motor. Also, he managed to wire it wrong to the contactor, so he killed the start winding on a brand new motor. While he was at it he managed to ruin the fan blades because he pried the fan blade hub off the rusty shaft all wrong.
So now... a second Dispatch charge. The original 445 for the motor. Plus another 200 for the fan blades. Not to mention the 200 or so for the grainger motor he killed. They wouldn't take it back. Not to mention the 4 or 5 hours he spent fucking around with it .

Many that is true, but an incomplete statement.
